Except....with collectives like Spyre purchasing the players NIL rights, it's going to make it significantly harder for a player to transfer from Tennessee, because unless another collective is willing to purchase their rights, that player will be unable to make any money from their NIL elsewhere. So, HOPEFULLY, Tennessee, by using Spyre and making large offers, will not only increase talented players, but will keep them here longer, and minimize the risk of transferring. This will in some ways eliminate the transfer portal.I agree, I can see players threaten the portal to get more money. I believe it will all settle down after a few years, but these first 2-3 years with NIL will be wild.
cue the Ummm Spelling meme
Players you want to transfer will be released from their NIL contract by mutual agreement.Except....with collectives like Spyre purchasing the players NIL rights, it's going to make it significantly harder for a player to transfer from Tennessee, because unless another collective is willing to purchase their rights, that player will be unable to make any money from their NIL elsewhere. If they did that, it becomes dangerous territory for them entering into other markets. The idea of Spyre is only working with Tennessee athletes with Tennessee businesses. If they started offering ops in other markets, then that goes against the ideals of what their business is. The reality is they would either sell the contract if the prospect was in a market with a reputable buyer, or they would alter the contract to allow the kid to make money elsewhere, but Spyre maybe gets a commission? Not sure honestly. Situations like that is where it gets sticky.Interesting had not thought about that. But that being said I guess they could also be retained and Spyre could create ops for them at their new place if he was so inclined.
Or, trade the player for a recruit to be named later....If they did that, it becomes dangerous territory for them entering into other markets.
