'21 AL DT Lee Hunter (UCF commit)

Serms odd that it just came out now.
👍I don’t believe this crap for a second. I’ve heard a couple coaches being interviewed on staff, including RG and WM, and the thing that both bragged about Heupel about was how detail oriented and organized he was, but we are to believe that they didn’t have a defensive recruit “board”? I’m not buying it.

Perception vs. Reality is a funny thing. The perception is that defensive recruiting is struggling because of the glaring deficiencies on our current defense (LB, DB, EDGE). The reality is that some of the biggest studs we landed in this class were on defense (Josephs, Pearce, West, Phillips, and maybe the top JUCO CB). This doesn't address those glaring needs immediately, so people think our defensive recruiting sucks. Reality is that most of us expected overall recruiting to be really bad this year, and it was much better than expected. Perception is also that we've bombed in the portal. Reality is that we can't be aggressive in the portal because there are not the available spots for people to enroll in the spring on scholarship because we've had very few hit the portal and we have 13 early enrollees. Yes, we've missed on a couple of guys but the sky isn't falling. But, why should reality hinder major freak outs on VN?

Wait just a minute... you can't come on here and start speaking rationally. We are here to complain and call for coaches heads.

Awesome post, big l!!! Been thinking this the whole time, and even typed up similar posts, but did not submit...didn't want to argue with the ones who fail/refuse to see it.

Again, nailed it!

Touted Auburn freshman DT Lee Hunter enters transfer portal
January 16
Auburn freshman DT Lee Hunter, who ranked No. 101 overall in the 2021 On3 Consensus recruiting rankings, has entered the transfer portal. Hunter, who is from the Mobile, Ala., area, didn’t see any action in 2021. He was ranked among the top 15 defensive linemen in the recruiting class.

According to On3 he is in the portal. It would make no sense for us not to pursue him IN MY OPINION. If he picks another school so be it, but I'd love to know that we at least threw our hat in the ring and pursued him.

You listed LB as a need and then listed a bunch of guys who do not play LB. I agree we took care of some needs, but recruiting in general has to improve. I realize there's valid reasons for the issues, but it has to improve.

I do agree the majority of what you said. It's a long time until August and a lot of guys will enter the portal between now and then.
