Tagavailoa is no better than Howells (whose throwing mechanics are actually better than Taulia's) and we wiffed on him and later took Maurer. That's okay. One QB is all we need to take in this class, even if Guarantano gets his feelings hurt and leaves. We'll still have Shrout, Maurer, and McBride next yr. CCW is probably doing backflips for joy at the prospect of having Shrout and Maurer competing for starts. And as we are in big on Harrison Bailey for 20' we'll be fine. Tagavailoa is a good player for sure; but we don't need him.
You might be right about McBride, there are plenty of moving parts to this. But if I were CJP and could get a silent from Tagavailoa sealed with a double naught spy secret handshake, then I'd try to pre-empt McBride's departure with a solemn heart to heart talk with him. I'd tell him that this QB job will never be his. It's the honest, and truthful, thing to do; besides, I expect he knows it already. Of course the scholly and education would still be his if he decided to stay in Knoxville anyway. Then, yes; I'd take two QBs in this class, knowing that if Tagavailoa comes; Maurer probably goes and we'd need another one after Taulia.I’d be surprised if McBride is still here next year.
Not really. Camps have proven time and again to mean nothing for college successIts significant. Taulia is the 6th ranked QB and Maurer is #17. Taulia has better stats. I would be shocked if anyone thought Maurer would out perform him. The fact that he did, at a huge camp like that, is significant.

2018 NFL Draft gives us lessons to learn for high school quarterback evaluationsWait what ? Every 4* -5* has that ranking because of CAMPS. You think camps mean nothing for college success ,if you want to be rated a high * then you have to go to , and then and do well at these camps , try getting rated a 3-4 Star and making it to a 5* without camping . I think your over your ski tips on this one .
You can say NOPE if you want to and link to some NFL article , but your statement was that camps mean nothing for college success ... ummmm so you are saying that these D1 coaches don’t look at the kids camp results ? They don’t talk about how well they are doing in camps ? And you can have a 5* rating from 247 without camping ?2018 NFL Draft gives us lessons to learn for high school quarterback evaluations
Nope. High school production, not camps, are the most telling. Taulia has that and Maurer doesn’t. Hope he has a great senior year but he’s not close to being as good a prospect as Taulia
Usually people get drafted into the NFL based on college success. That article was written by a recruiting analyst too. In the few years I’ve followed recruiting I’ve learned to put zero stock into things like the elite 11.You can say NOPE if you want to and link to some NFL article , but your statement was that camps mean nothing for college success ... ummmm so you are saying that these D1 coaches don’t look at the kids camp results ? He went up about 110 spots nationally... pretty significant bumpUsually people get drafted into the NFL based on college success. That article was written by a recruiting analyst too. In the few years I’ve followed recruiting I’ve learned to put zero stock into things like the elite 11.
However, Maurer did camp for our coaches and impressed them which is a very good sign. He still needs to prove himself on a real football field. Hence why he didn’t get a bump even after finishing top 5 at the opening
