‘23 AL S Sylvester Smith

You don't know any more than anyone else. NOBODY knows until the games are played.

This is a little outrageous. Can’t tell if someone’s a nfl guy before they play a college game. If that was the case every five star would end up a star in the nfl

I know talent when I see it. And this kid just has the look of a baller. Huge loss in my eyes. He was our second best DB recruit after Ricky Gibson.

Matthews is better than him. Gibson and Matthews are on another level than the others including this guy.

He is a talented athlete, but football is a brotherhood. Our other recruits had been doing weekly chats since this summer and bonding. They tried including Smith. When he did sign on for the chats, he never really talked and cut up with the other guys. Eventually he stopped participating all together. That's been a few months ago. Like I said earlier, I thought he was just a quiet kid. Kind of a loner.... but it appears that he never fully wanted to be a Vol. Time to move on.

Nice insight

No single player makes or breaks a recruiting class. If it does then you are doing a very poor job of recruiting.

Also, this seems like a talented player but... not uniquely so.

Finally, recruiting is a "gamble". You figure your odds then place your bets. You never count on winning 25/25. You're going to lose recruits. You're going to sign players who can't or won't develop. You are going to sign players who get injured or can't hold up to CFB physically. You are going to find some guys who grow or develop far beyond your expectations.

Handwringing over one lost commit or even condemning a kid for de-committing is foolish.

If true, that just makes his comments from October all the more confusing.
