Al Washington (Potential DC)

Back to back conference championships sounds pretty nice right now.

Mathews did 2 things: he scrapped the 5-2 and put a 4-3 in place. And he moved guys to other positions. We just need someone who knows what the hell they are doing. I don’t give a rip if we put Kevin (70 points) Steele or not. Experience is overrated when the old guy isn’t hungry anymore.

Doug Mathews was an excellent coach with the Vols. He was a great running back at Vanderbilt also. I enjoy his Sunday podcasts even his Ford F-150 ads.

Tighten up boys. Heupel may have gotten Al a raise but this is nothing to sweat over. Tony Elliott was not a major loss either if he is not ready for a big challenge and his heart is not in it. Plan B may be preferable anyway time will tell.

Sometimes I miss the days when I had no idea who the assistant coaches or the incoming freshmen class were until I bought a program at my first game of the season.

Plan B? Announce Wednesday? Thank God for Basketball and forthcoming softball and baseball. I want to turn off UT football until spring game which is????

Why would he be motivated to cause trouble? He can get his 2.5mil for two years, look like the ultimate team player, audition for a last big hurrah elsewhere. Stinking up his alma mater has zero value add for him. If I am hearing correctly, he is still making recruiting efforts for our new coach to this day. I don’t see him getting more than 2.5 anywhere and bet he does not either and that is the only way he makes more than riding it out as a position coach and get some thanks from CJH. Could be a big help to a younger DC if that is the route.
Phillip Fulmer. He likely lied to Steele and Tee about what would be happening at UT after Pruitt was canned.

Steele probably thinks (and perhaps correctly) that we'll have to take him at DC, so he only helps himself recruiting now. If he "recruited over" by Washington or someone else for DC, who wouldn't be bitter? Again, he has history. He just got jilted at Auburn...... if he gets passed over again at UT, I'd be pissed.

These guys are going to be closely watched by the NCAA. Don't be surprised to be turned down by guys whose best asset is their recruiting success. Many of them know that they cheat, that's how they learned, and don't want the extra eyes on them.

If I've learned anything from coaching searches, never 100% believe the "insiders." And that applies both our own and other teams' insiders. We'll know soon enough if Al Washington is the new DC. My feeling is that he will be.

Back to back because Tennessee out scored a lot of people. Go back and look at that 90 team. We were loadeddddddddd

UT has driven this program so far into the ground no one wants to coach here. Couple it with an offense that isn’t friendly to our defense and subpar talent and you’ve got a real challenge on your hands. Also, let’s add in sanctions. We’re seeing things play out as we all knew they would.
