Bleacher Report

Bowers was celebrating Alabama's 29-0 victory over the LSU Tigers last Saturday, and one of Bowers' family members "believes the attack was motivated by Bowers' fandom," Krail reported.
However, Ponchatoula Police told Michael Vinsanau of WDSU that the fight was not about the LSU-Alabama game.

WBRZ

Police Chief Bry Layrisson initially told the Advocate he believed the fight began as an argument over the LSU game, though he later backed away from that assertion, saying the cause of the fight was still unclear.

The chief said it's the first time he's seen this kind of violence at one of the local bars, calling it a "freak tragic incident".

ABC

Ponchatoula Police officers say two men struck Bowers, who was knocked unconscious and received immediate attention from a volunteer firefighter on scene. He was hospitalized on life support until his death three days later.

It don't seem like alot of info is available at this time, it will be interesting to follow as more comes out as to what really happen.

Shoot, remember guys at the end of the day it just a game. I raise cane too, but I don't want to see any human hurt over being a fan.

SMH at this. I live in Bama. There is always a story it seems like of some one/thing/spouse/sister diying after they lose. Even though they won I’m not surprised. The obnoxious and pompous entitlement from that fan base, generally speaking, is out of control.

Sorry to hear this, and agreed, it’s just a game. Lay off the alcohol and let it go.

Did you just blame the guy who was beaten to death?

" The obnoxious and pompous entitlement from that fan base, generally speaking, is out of control."

So you aren't saying it's the victim's fault, but his "obnoxious and pompous entitlement... is out of control."

If she wasn't wearing such a short skirt, she probably wouldn't have been raped.

I love how you took out “generally speaking” from my quote and try to attribute that to this specific case. Then went all in with the rape reference. Lovely.

I further said I feel bad about this and blamed alcohol more than anything.

Sometimes it’s best to just keep quite instead of opening your mouth and removing what little doubt there was to begin with.

If you think calling out the switching of two letters from an autocorrect is some sort of clever response then the point is validated.

Thanks for the tip. Next time I want to show off at parties, I'll try explaining why a guy deserved to be beaten to death.

It isn't worth refuting. Whether you "blame the victim" or not, if your first thought upon reading this story is "Bama fans are obnoxious, so this isn't surprising," you are a dick.

Look, it doesn't matter which school's fan did what. It's a tragic situation and what's worse, one that easily could have been avoided. As the OP said, at the end of the day it's just a game.

You nor anyone else on here knows if the Bama guy was taunting the guys or if the LSU guys just felt like hitting this Bama fan for wearing the school colors. None of the reports explains this part.

Would either scenario make a difference?

he said he lived in Bama. so thinking Bama fans are obnoxious isn't just stemming from this article or story alone.

It may be true Bama fans are obnoxious. It's also true every fan base has some, that's no reason for a person to die because of it. I know a lot of stuff can happen in the heat of the moment, but it's hard for me to believe that the guys didn't know the fight was over and won before they beat him to death

Isn't that what everyone thought when they first read the headline? I know I did.
