Also they have lost the reputation that Saban had for getting so many players drafted. Not sure Deboer will be quite as good at developmentPortal is going to be interesting for Alabama.
They really have nothing now that NIL and the transfer portal has come to play
I would not want to play in an environment that is constantly under a microscope and pressure of which fans will constantly criticize your every move.
Alabama glimmer is gone and so is the backdoor cash. No longer a singular launching pad as NIL and the transfer portal has made them an Average bunch of Joes trying to do a hero's type job.
Agree...that being said, this conference is NUTS this year. Any of the top rated teams would not want to play Florida or South Carolina right now, and maybe add OK that they finally got their mojo going some w/ their QB. Say what you will about us "winning ugly" several games this year, but it's much better than what others have experienced (let's omit ARK for the sake of argument!)Bama crapped big elephant turds all over the field at Oklahoma. What a glorious day!
Waaaaay too many of our fans discount how hard it is to win on the road in this conference. Even more so now. NIL has brought parity to the league. No, that would be Mich fans. If you've never lived in the Ann Arbor area, it is hard to understand the arrogance of the big house. This post is fulfilling to say the least, been looking forward to this day/season for a long time.
In reality, what did Bama fans as well as college football expect? There is not another coach alive who can step in and duplicate what Saban did. Sure he was a great coach, however he had Bama by the short hairs from day one and had 100% control of the university. He had anything he wanted to stay 4-5 steps in front of every other college program.
Now that NIL has leveled the playing field, Bama will never, never, duplicate the last 18 years and they cannot accept it. I always thought that KY basketball fans were the most entitled, they can’t hold a candle to Bama football fans.
This ^. For the last decade; the only SEC teams consistently picked to win on the road week in and out were AL and GA. Now maybe Texas this year. It is an elite club. We aren’t quite there yet.Waaaaay too many of our fans discount how hard it is to win on the road in this conference. Even more so now. NIL has brought parity to the league. It's great
He likes to wear orange fingernail polish. Is this the example to all the other perpetually 17 year old out there? I jest of course. He and Mike Mathews would feast.Doth I smell smoke from burning mattresses coming from down Tuscaloosa way? Perhaps young Williams would like to attend a few bbqs on Rocky Top on his way to the portal?
You haven't lived in Alabama. They went from Arrogant (Bear's years), to delusional (Perkins to Shula) to Arrogance again (Saban). They ran off Curry after a 10-win season and a share of the SEC Championship and then several years later ran off a national championship coach (Stallings) after a 10 win season, replacing him with Mike DuBose (one of Bear's boys). If they fire or run off Deboer, they'll be in the wilderness for years because no good HC with half a brain would go into that clusterf***. I think Deboer may resign after next season because of the stupidity of the fan base. No, that would be Mich fans. Recruiting IS going to fall off because errybody wants to get paid, and Gump only has so much they can fork over. And 'success' is being redefined as we speak. A 2 loss season in the SEC is the new norm for successful. If the fans don't get that, the yeah he will be hitting the door, and Gump will become ever more mediocre.Their coach is a good football coach, but if recruiting falls off, he will never be successful.
He isn't going to resign. Not with all the bank he's being paid. And if they run him out, he'll do an Orgeron and smile as he walks to the door. You haven't lived in Alabama.
