Albert Haynesworth (merged)

A) does it matter what Fulmer thinks of Dooley?

B)considering Gibbs worked for Snyder and still supports the skins

I think you missed the point. The same statement could have been made of Gibbs when he took on the head coach under snyder that was stated about shanahan. Gibbs got out of there because he knew there was no way to succeed under Snyder.

"...regardless of the money." Let's put that to the test:

Coach Mike Shanahan revealed that the Redskins told Haynesworth in February that they would agree to release him and let him go to another team -- in exchange for not paying him a $21 million bonus due April 1.

"Obviously, he took the check," Shanahan said, "so I was surprised he wasn't here today. ... Don't take our check and then say that, hey, you don't want to be part of our organization."

The Redskins are now pursuing the return of that $21 million payment, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Washington Redskins players call Albert Haynesworth 'selfish' - ESPN

It looks to me like it's ALL about the money.

I said that he worked hard to win championships.. I didn't say that he did win championships.

It is obvious that he wanted too.

I was just reading it for you...

I see that now, but it still seems strange that Shanahan would be unwilling to trade him once a few teams started showing interest if he was really willing to release him. I doubt they would have ever released him knowing they could have traded him.

They are probably just trying to make him look even worse than he already does to get their money back..

Also, they could have just wanted to cut their losses and move on. Haynesworth seems to be the type to want to take the check and just sit out as long as possible.

It's utterly disgusting! In a time when millions of people are out there struggling to find work so they can feed their families, I'm ashamed to know that this man ever put on a Vol's Jersey. I hope his actions leave such a stain on his reputation that he never plays football in the NFL again.

Hard to retire as owner

Yes, but the same point of getting out could have occured if he wanted to just relax and enjoy retirement. He could have sold out.

Also, he turned the Nascar operations over to his son when he decided to return to the Redskins. Once retiring from the Redskins, he has stepped back into being fully involved with his Nascar teams.

The redskins need to get out the checkbook and give him a lot more money if they want to keep him. Their D is terrible---they need these kind of run stuffing studs, but it will cost them a lot more money.

he owns the NASCAR team and his son runs it

His son was put in charge when Gibbs went back to the Redskins. Although Gibbs has not taken his son out of that position (who would), Gibbs has jumped back into being fully involved with the Nascar teams since retiring from the Redskins.

He should have never taken the money if he wasn't going to play. No one in their right mind would pay someone that type of money in a 3-4 defensive scheme anyway. Big Al is all about the money, always has been. He had no loyalty to the Vols or the Titans. He sure doesn't give a crap about Washington either.

T.O. has alligator armed plenty of passes.

He is one of the best receivers to play football but he's had plenty of moments where he quit too

YouTube - Terrell Owens crying!!

I don't think he is as bad as you are saying. I think that he is very honest, and when someone didn't put out the effort necessary to win then he let everyone know, including them.

Edit: Oh, and actually watch that and tell me he doesn't mean what he is saying.

I don't need to watch the "that's my quarterback" BS, just like I don't have to watch him rip Donovan McNabb's performance in the Super Bowl.
350 yards passing, 3 TDs (and TO had 9 catches for 120 yds)
Accept the loss and move on. He wants to win, and when he doesn't, he throws blame around like a 7 year old

I knew this would happen. When you sign a 100 million dollar contract with 26 million guaranteed, the incentive to work decreases substantially. It's similar to when people win the lottery. They quit their jobs and many find thenselves bankrupt after a few years.

41 mil. Was gauranteed....

I am just saying that there are two sides of it, and that he isn't always bad.

Btw, all he said was that he, "wasn't the guy that got tired in the Superbowl." He never said anything directly about McNabb.

I'm all for people making whatever they can make.

Snyder was dumb enough to pay him guaranteed money. It's Haynesworth's money now.
Justin you are on pace to become the most reasonable poster on VolNation. I agree 100 percent with your post. All I know about him on a personal level,no big deal but I 'll share a story. Albert and another Titan and a college player paid everything for my oldest son one night when they all hung out in Knoxville back when he was with the Titans, picked my son up at his college, etc. But, my son happens to be a diehard Colts fan.:)

They have already PAID him 42m of the 100m in the contract.

26m was the signing bonus iirc

2010 Salary (less bonuses) 5m

2011 Salary 4m

Hes done. Cant work for those kinda wages. lol

No, he is guaranteed 42M over the length of the contract, and only about 5M of them is the signing bonus. It appears to me that the Redskins didn't associate any condition with the 21M "option bonus" which was already paid to Albert on 4/1. So as long as he is around on 4/1, the money is his.

IMO, it's a really a dumb decision to give a player 21M "before" the season starts and "expect" him to play. However, Redskins or whoever wanted to sign Albert as a FA pretty much had to structure this type of heavily front-loaded contract in order to attract big-time FA like Albert.

Unless Redskins specifically required Albert to play for them next season in the contract (which is very unlikely), I don't see how Redskins can possibly recover this 21M.
