Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

I agree with this. Neither party is interested in fiscal responsibility.
Politics and just the way government works begins to make a lot more sense when you separate what the parties actually do from their "branding."

So much of what people think about Democrats and Republicans comes from how they brand themselves and the different demographics they play to, not what they actually do.

I like this forum because most of us are pretty in tune to the debt issue (party affiliation aside), the cause and responsibility of both parties in the matter and where this will lead, ultimately. I feel sorry for the people that bring up this topic with me on occasion, I'm sure it's happened to many of you, and the blank stare that ensues when you frame the debt discussion in it's proper context. I mean, wtf do these people ultimately think is going to happen? Unicorns and rainbows to the rescue.

True. The most recent episode of This American Life tackled conspiracies and has a segment about this guy who decided he would try to do his own Russian bots style social media campaign against Roy Moore in Alabama. He justified everything by his belief that R's play dirty tricks and are driven by bad motives. It doesn't matter what your side does if you believe this about the other side. This is exactly how people like my parents see D's, and they hold their nose and vote for R's every time. So you have both sides effectively ignoring the flaws of their own party, which allows both sides to misbehave basically all the time.

We have these silly fantasies that Democrats are conspiring with hate for America, the police, white people, etc. or Republicans are conspiring with hate for the environment, poor people, black people, etc. The biggest problem, by far, bar none with America is our debt and it doesn't take a conspiracy or evil motives. All it takes is distraction.

I don't think she understands the Republic. How many true Americans goes by a dash between the middle and last name without it being a married name in the middle? The name is similar to someone of origin from another country. She makes a mockery of America with her ignorance.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Queer Eye's Jonathan Van Ness strolled the halls of Congress on Thursday while holding hands and dressed in pink

Carlin disagrees. I highlighted those two statements above so these gems wouldn't get missed.

Good stuff.

Apparently you have reading comprehension problems.

The first statement you highlighted - I said it was rare but I didn't say you couldn't find anyone with a dash in the last name and I'm beginning to think maybe a foreign background could be part of the lack of knowledge she displays and she doesn't seem embarrassed.

The second statement you highlighted was just plain dumb - if you haven't noticed her lack of knowledge and clear misuse of the English language then I don't know what to tell you. The lady won in a small election after having a job as a bartender and she is the left's leader. Lol

Apparently you didn't read what you wrote. You specifically questioned how many 'true' Americans hyphenated their names... Are you now suggesting that she's ignorant due to her heritage? She was born in the Bronx, as was her father. Her mother is Puerto Rican. There's a decent chance she's both academically and street smarter than you.

Your statements demonstrate profound ignorance of her origins, likley a result of being spoon fed Facebook memes in a way to make you believe she's stupid. Protip, just because you disagree with her ideology doesn't make her ignorant.

LOL smh @that “ protip”

Spanish people don't even hyphenate their double last name. She did it the American way. As if being the stupidest gripe ever wasn't enough, it's inaccurate.

Typical lib profiling a minority from the Bronx as street smart. You be the judge of that lil fella. I will let you make up your own mind. Your and Cortez seem like two birds in a feather.

About half of the double Spanish last names I see are hyphenated.

By the way,. AOC graduated cum laude from Boston University. I believe some of you barely graudated oh laude from high school.

LOL, B.U. doesn't want anyone to know she graduated from there. She's an idiot, degree or not. I can guarantee she didn't learn anything as she supposedly has an Economics degree and has no comprehension of what she supposedly studied. She didn't learn anything and knows less.

She's the prime example of what is wrong with education, regurgitation to pass a test isn't learning, and certainly isn't knowledge.

people keep bringing up where someone went to college as if it matters. Smart is smart, dumb is dumb. W graduated from some muckity muck place and that dude could barely string a sentence together.

She graduated from Boston U with an economics degree, and then worked as a bartender, before ending up in Congress. I would say her degree mattered less than most for their chosen careers. Those who can't, don't just teach, they also run for office. Where she went would matter a lot more if she did something with it.
