AOC 'squad' holds news conference after Trump doubles down on explosive call for them to 'go back' home

In spirited remarks tinged with open animosity, Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., standing side-by-side with Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib, declared at a news conference on Capitol Hill Monday that "it is time for us to impeach this president" for "openly violating" his constitutional oath.

"The eyes of history are watching us" in this "pivotal moment," Omar said.

Just hours earlier, President Trump forcefully doubled down on his call for progressive congresswomen to "go back" to where they came from -- and demanded they "apologize" for what he called their anti-American "hate."

Omar asserted that the U.S. had a "long way" to go until it could live up to its founding values. She said Trump was "openly violating" his constitutional oath.

"Right now, the president is committing human rights abuses at the border," Omar said, before saying Trump has been "credibly accused" of criminal conduct. Tlaib, speaking separately, backed Omar's call for impeachment, saying Trump's language was "disgusting and bigoted" and that his administration was "lawless."

Pressley, in her remarks, began by referring to Trump as "the occupant of the White House" seeking to "marginalize and silence" the women, but quickly turned her focus to various issues, from gun violence to immigration.

"At the end of the day, if we improve the conditions of children in a cage, they are still in a cage," Pressley continued. "This is simply a disruption and a distraction from the callous, chaotic, and corrupt culture of this administration all the way down. We want to get back to the business of the American people, and why we were sent here."

Members of the so-called progressive "squad" have feuded bitterly with top House Democrats in recent days, leading some observers to allege that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's attacks on the freshmen progressives have emboldened Trump.

To the Democrats on the board, is this "Squad" who you want to be the face of your party? JMO, but they're hurting the Democratic party. I don't see them playing well with most of America. I think they could absolutely cost you some votes.

Well, if they are alive in a cage a few days that certainly would seem to beat the argument that if they stayed in whatever craphole they would be shot, raped, or beaten to death by morning. Maybe they don't need asylum as bad as they are saying if living in a safe cage is so bad.

What is keeping them from doing exactly that? They don't know how to do their jobs, ergo they don't.

To the Democrats on the board, is this "Squad" who you want to be the face of your party? JMO, but they're hurting the Democratic party. I don't see them playing well with most of America. I think they could absolutely cost you some votes.
I am perfectly happy with them being a part of the many faces of the party.
Unlike the republican party, the democratic party does not have ONE FACE.

Do you like Trump being the face of your republican party?

I'm not Republican, and I'm not really happy with any of our elected officials. We've discussed this. I don't like politicians.

Most of the politicians in your party, particulary those seeking the Presidential nomination, definitely are not of one face. They are two faced.

He hasn't changed from before he was elected, has he?

He was already elected president. What point are you attempting to make?

As opposed to Nancy Pelosi and all the other corporate dems who do absolutely nothing? Absolutely.

You don't really believe in conversation, do you?

They're playing a dangerous game. Stoking racial tensions, advocating for open borders, trying to push things too far too fast. I admire their zeal, but question their methodology. I'm not sure they really grasp the bigger picture, and that could prove to hurt them in the long run.

Nothing easier than claiming you don't like politicians, but that kind of ignores the fact that they are necessary.
Which party most aligns with your top ten weighted priorities and who are a couple of people you would least hate seeing as the face of that party?

They're stoking racial tension? Trump ran on a platform of racial tension.

I just want to live my life and be happy. I want the same for other people. Government is too involved in everything. It may be necessary, but it shouldn't be so invasive. On some things, I side with the right. On other things, I side with the left. Because of that, I can't say I lean anymore one way than the other. The biggest problem with politicians is they put themselves and/or their party above the country. Politics has become about personal gain, personal victories, and left behind the idea of service to country.
