It actually can. While he was horrible in public speaking/social media and spending he wasn't horrible in many aspects of the office. Biden has been pretty bad in his short time, I don't expect things to get much better. Harris could very well be president in a year. Not too encouraged at her prospects.

We could have had 3 mediocre to bad presidents back to back, add in a fourth who's only appeal is to offer money for support resulting in more government dependency.

That is the death knoll of a country you hear in the distance and it's getting louder. What we are doing isn't sustainable.

The problem isn't it being a hand out. Social Security was meant to be a help for people who've worked hard over the years supporting the prior generation(s) when they retire.

It's just getting a return on your investment. The real problem is the two party system realized some time back they could buy votes by playing fast and loose with that account. Gradually we've passed the buck to the unborn many generations down the road instead of government living within it's means.

Compounding the problem is fewer and fewer able bodied people working to pay in. Another example of the unsustainable nature of our current situation.
