Awaiting a press conf. where it's expected Obama will announce all US forces out of Iraq by end of year.

Good news on one hand but I have concerns about how this went down.

i say bring all the troops home from wherever the heck they are and let the rest of the world fight it out amongst themselves. stop being an enabling parent to the planet. countries in the middle east have been fighting for hundreds of years and they ain't gonna stop anytime soon. let them blow themselves to hell.

Shameless vote-buying. Obama knows he's losing the center, so he's doing everything he can to excite those on the left.

So far the only "accomplishment" being touted is "I did what I said I'd do". No mention that Iraq is stable or that this was done because the job was completed or reached some milestone other than a date.

At least he's not lying.

Well, as BC noted - I have mixed feelings. I definitely want the thing done, want the over taxed troops to get relieve and hope we move towards a less interventionist stance.

On the other hand I have no faith that this was done because it was the right thing to do and am concerned about what Iran will now do.

Sweet! Pull them from Iraq and send the to the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. Did he happen to mention that?

So this is over? On 1/1/12 there will be Zero troops in Iraq? What about the green zone? The embassy? No special forces? No base out in the desert somewhere?

It's a joke we are pulling out and not finishing the job (no homo). I still support the initial decision to go over there, and too just ditch all the innocent people in Iraq we have affected just shows how low of a person Obama is. He is trying to do everything he can to help his ratings.

Iran is next, whether the American public likes it or not. I just hope we act instead of react this time.

No. In fact he said we are ending a war era and actually pulling down forces in Afghanistan as well. Then bragged about UBL and Col. Quackers.

Peace through Drones!

This works perfectly for Obama. He accomplished a stated goal to withdraw troops from Iraq.

If Iraq turns to ****, his defenders will say, "We shouldn't have been there anyway, the situation was unwinnable, and this is Bush's fault." The media will collectively nod their heads, scribble down the talking points, and "report" to the public.

If Iraq doesn't turn to **** and continues to recover, then Obama is a genius because he was able to salvage the Iraq problem and withdrew the troops at the appropriate time.

The general speculation is that we waited far to long to negotiate with Al Maliki (began this August) and didn't push very hard to continue a presence.

Will be interesting to see if we ever hear what the military advice was.

If this is done because the truely believe that the area is stable enough for the local government to control, then I am ok with it. If it is done for any other reason, Im not.

As much as I'd like to see Obama gone - I hope and pray it doesn't turn to ****.

Interestingly, stability wasn't really addressed. Overall, though I agree with the sentiment. If we achieved some plateau or milestone then so be it. I can't shake the feeling we didn't.
