Wilbekin fills his role extremely well, and his accolades are a product of that. Not the best basketball player in the SEC though, by any means.

that's a different question.

if that were the case, it would go to randle.

the "player of the year" was wilbekin and, in my biased opinion, it wasn't close.

what does "player of the year" entail then if not the best player this year?

I would choose among: Releford, Prather, McRae and Stokes > Randle

you're changing the question again.

the best basketball player in the sec is randle. it's why he'll be a very rich man.

the player who had the best season is wilbekin.

if you are going to only look at a stat sheet, that won't be the case.

the stat sheet doesn't show defense.

the stat sheet also doesn't show what a player does when there is less than 4 minutes to go and you have to have it.

What do you mean I'm changing the question? I'm saying, what does player of the year mean, if not best player this year?

And no, Randle was not the best player this year. He is the best NBA project this year, but he wasn't the best player. Close though.

I don't think using only the last 4 minutes of a game is the best metric for evaluating players. I care what they do the other 36 minutes too.

Like I said, Wilbekin fills his role to a T, and he is a senior leader on the conference's best team. But that doesn't make him the best player in the league.

Reminds me of the year Parsons won POY. No clear-cut best player that season, but he got the nod because he was the best all around player on one of the best teams in the league. And what a player he's turned out to be. I could see Wilbekin having a similar path to and result in the NBA.

player of the year is.....the player who has had the best season of that particular year.

the player who has had the best season of this particular year is wilbekin.

people want to blow that off because he doesn't average 20ppg, isn't going to be a high nba draft pick (if selected at all), etc, etc, etc.

but, he dominates on the defensive end, he gets it done when the game is on the line, and he doesn't do anything stupid. the ball is in his hands all the time and you never have to ask "what the hell was that?"

he's done it all year.

better than anyone else.

I agree. Wilbekin is the best all around player in the SEC this year and a great floor general because without him Florida isn't the great team that it is this year.

Florida has 2 of 8 players on All SEC first team
Tennessee has 2 of 8 players on All SEC first team
Kentucky has 1 of 8 players on All SEC first team

Florida has 1 of 10 on All SEC second team
Kentucky has 1 of 10 on All SEC second team

Florida has 1 of 5 on All SEC defensive team
Tennessee has 1 of 5 on All SEC defensive team
Kentucky has 1 of 5 on All SEC defensive team

DOES ANYBODY SEE ANY REASON WE CAN'T WIN THE SEC TOURNAMENT??

Better 2 words: remaining roster. It's decent at this point, but if Wilbekin is the best player for Florida, and they ended 18-0, that tells me their roster is more balanced, more consistently. How many games have we had only 4 players do anything, two of which were recognized? Tells me the others need to step it up more often, like they have the past 4 games.

Can't really disagree with any of the names on the list. But I do think TN is the only team where you could argue two guys for SEC POY AND SEC DPOY on the same team and not sound like an idiot.
