Whoever came up with the idea that the winner of the all star game gets home field in the world series should be hung in court square...
How many years in a row now has the AL won this game that has no meaning and doesn't even count in the standings? There could be a hundred ways to do it; best record, alternating years (hell that would be better than how it is now). Flipping a coin would be better. Why? Of course it's arbitrary, but no more so than just alternating back and forth, which is what they did beforehand. Would you rather them flip a coin before Game 1?
It seems like a completely obvious idea. I was arguing in favor of it back in the 80s when the ASG was becoming unwatchable because of nobody seemed to be trying to win anymore.

Yeah, but hell, what about the crazy coaching to insert everybody on the damn roster to make sure they all get to play? The game still isn't run like there's something serious at stake. And like was mentioned earlier the dumbass commish stops a game with a tie score... :huh:I like the idea of making the All-Star game mean something. Honestly in the late nineties, I watched the HR Derby and the Celebrity All-Star game, but never gave much attention to the All-Star game itself because as Vercin said, it seemed no one was really trying.

i hate mccarver and buck. With passion. More than I hate the Yankees.
That play at the plate was a "good" play by martin, but the beauty of the play was McLouth's throw. That was a rocket of a throw right on the money and all Martin had to do was catch it and make the tag. It wasn't even close.
