I'd be curious to know what some of yalls favorite Christmas songs/albums are that you listen to during the holidays.

Also, what versions of Christmas songs do you consider definitive? Like for example, to me there's no better version of The Little Drummer Boy than the one sung by Bing Crosby and David Bowie. Also, to me Nat King Cole's version of The Christmas Song is the best. Winter Wonderland? It's got to be Johnny Mathis!

Oh and what Christmas songs do you hate? I'll put forth 3 that are hellacious earworms, Feliz Navidad is painfully repetitive! I cannot stand it! Also, I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas sucks! And finally, So This Is Christmas by John Lennon is dreadful!

I like Joan Jett's version of Little Drummer boy.

Montgomery Gentry version of Merry Christmas from the family.

Colbie Calliat Christmas in the sand.

The Classics that were mentioned in the OP.

I know it has it's fans as 80's nostalgia .... but "Do They Know It's Christmas" by the British pop stars from 1984 is the most patronizing song ever recorded. It's white saviorism on steroids.
Yeah I despise that damn song! A Wonderful Christmas Time by Paul McCartney is another one that makes me want to stab eardrums!

Who here is old enough to remember when this aired? I just love this duet!

Also, I'm typically not an Elvis fan, especially his Christmas music, but this is a beautiful song!

That is the most god awful Christmas song ever. It's in the running for worst song ever as well.

So this is xmas is also just terrible. The Beatles members should have left Christmas alone..

I'm not trying to **** on it. I think I'm the weird one. But I don't really like Christmas music and I don't really get it. Going caroling? Fine. Singing with the family on Christmas day? Great memory. And the right Christmas track on a Christmas movie is amazing....but sitting around listening to Christmas albums at home or in the car for a week or up to a month? I can't.

That being said, this one does get totally overlooked, and I make sure I get in one listen every holiday season:

I guess it just depends on your perspective on Christmas itself. I personally LOVE the Christmas season and our family full-throatedly embraces all of its trappings! Christmas music is just another thing that puts me in the spirit of the season. Now, come December 26th I'm definitely over it and ready to move on. But from about the middle of December through the 25th, we always have it playing.

One thing I did discover a few years ago was instrumental jazz Christmas music. It's relaxing and it doesn't make me grow tired of hearing it nearly as much as the traditional Christmas songs you hear on the radio.

There are just some things I feel like I have to do at Christmas :

1) Listen to my Christmas Classics CD. It features everything from Burl Ives and Dean Martin to Springsteen.
2) Watch the Christmas episode from The Andy Griffith Show
3) Watch A Christmas Story in it's entirety at least once.

It's tradition. Can't monkey with it.

Oh man, talk to me! The Andy Griffith Christmas episode is a must watch in my house!! Its one of my favorites! Also, the Happy Days "Guess Who's Coming For Christmas" episode is a classic! I could start a whole new thread on Christmas episodes of classic TV shows! All In The Family's "The Draft Dodger" is another can't miss at Christmas in our house too!

My favorite is Christmas in Dixie. I recently discovered Fairytale of New York by The Pogues, I like it. And We Need a Little Christmas by Johnny Mathis. Oh and i also like Wham's Last Christmas, don't care what anyone says.

Almost any Christmas song by Pentatonix is good.

All the classics mentioned above except The Beatles' abominations and Let Them Know It's Christmas.

Always remembered Greg Lake's mournful, melancholy song. Father Ferguson played this all season when we were kids.
