All things fishing thread

How long did it take you to get it in? 10ft rod or longer?

12 ft rod, yeah. I got it in pretty quick, probably less than 10 minutes because i was horsing it. It started running down the beach toward swimmers so i tightened up the drag and turned it back. Normally i like to let them run some but there's always those folks who like to swim right by where people are fishing lol

Are those other two guys little people or are you 6’8” or what?

6'4" but shrinking life beating me down. Not a guide, but got enough hours to get a 6 pack license. My skinny buddy Wilbur is from NoVA... Hells Angels belt buckle.

Waded for trout at Oregon Inlet using popping corks... only caught one speckled trout. Beautiful day, but the tide wasn't running enough yet.

Amen brother.

OBX is an amazing place to live if you enjoy the outdoors... and already have a girl. Only 33K year round residents.
With all the people moving to the greater Nashville area, I may need to head in that direction. It’s gotten insane.

Fishing stories, dimwit. 🙄
I got one.
Last winter I was wishing on the Tn River.
Super foggy. At daybreak.
I heard a commotion on the edge of the river channel about a hundred feet away. Eased toward it slowly with trolling motor . Love me some topwater smallmouth.
I saw the largest smallmouth I have ever seen slowly swimming straight toward the boat.
I have caught 18 smallmouth in my life over 24 inches. I know what a huge smallmouth looks like. This was a monster I guessed at 10 pounds.
It kept swimming straight toward the boat. I reached out with the net, she swam right in it.
I got ready to take a pic when I noticed she had a big bluegill stuck in her throat. I got my pliers out and started trying to get it out without harming her. When I got it out there was another hand size bluegill stuck under the first. It was easier removed. Water temp was in the mid 50s. She swam off, I hope she lived.

I was puzzled the rest of the morning about why that cow swam into my net. When loading the boat I saw what it was.
I have a Catch and Release decal on that side of the boat.
Old girl had been around so long she must have learned to read.
True story.

And every damn one of them is on Percy Priest every weekend.
People that bitch about Guntersville being crowded should try PP.
I only fish PP at night now and there’s no way I’m hell I’d go out during the day on the weekend…. There or Old Hickory

Anyone else addicted to saltwater inshore kayak fishing like me? I'm able to get a couple week long trips in down to Florida every year. Nothing more fun, to me.

I can catch more/better fish on a Tuesday than Saturday and Sunday combined.
Everybody told me when I retired my boat would not get wet on the weekend.
Fishing the weekend is best left to the poor working slobs making boat payments on a 12 year note that think they are the next Van Dam..

I kept a boat in Destin .
I would go down most weekends.
Realized I only enjoyed going out in calm seas.
During a Coast Guard inspection, one of the idiots I fished with told them he always threw in money for diesel. They insisted I get a 6 pack license. I had to pay a thief lawyer to get out of the fine. Sold the boat.
Stick with the yak, they look like a lot of fun. I see a lot of folks(including women) on the lakes I fish.

Not just fishing. I avoid just about every business on weekends. Too Crowded, and they need to go then. Especially Lowes, HD.

Had a good time this morning catching jacks in the NE Florida marshes on the fly! They pull like freight trains.

Nice! I loved going after redfish in the marshes when I lived in NE FL. Never did have much success with jacks.

I believe next time I go to Costa Rica, I'm going to book an excursion to go after roosterfish. Those things are supposed to hit and fight like hell!

Fished offshore last Wednesday in OBX.

Great conditions. Bait everywhere. Friggin pilot whales were thick... hundreds of them lazy mothers just flopping around on the surface. Lots of dolphin too... bottlenose plus spinners. All of these things a good sign for fish beneath them.

Picked up a blackfin tuna right off the bat. Small. 12 lbs.

About 10 AM, we got the smackdown. All 7 lines hit simultaneously. TUNAS ON!!!

Normally, you can finagle them so that they don't cross one another and tangle your lines. Heh. We failed. Had 3 or 4 crossed up and our lines ready to slice. I lost mine after about 10 minute fight, but all the others we got untangled. Meanwhile, 1 rod was still untouched in its rodholder - fish still on. Sweet.

Cranked her in, and was 1st to come to gaff. Close to 45 or 50 pounder. Got 2 more tunas in. Last fish in... well... it *was* a tuna initially. Now it was a monster shark that swallowed it whole, and got caught on the same hook. About a 9 foot Dusky shark, I think. We cut her free.

Meanwhile, the yellowfin tuna were streaking on the surface all around our boat. One of the coolest sights you'll ever see in the Gulf Stream. I got video, then accidentally erased it couple days later. Damn fat fingers.

Anyway, within 30 minutes we hooked up a blue marlin... jumped a couple times... probably about 250#. Then broken my buddy's leader connection... he was pissed. It happens.

Tuna bite ended, so we packed it in and went a bit inshore for bottom fishing for tilefish. Find them in 200-300 feet, so lots of cranking unless you got electric reels... we had 2. Crushed them. Caught several citation sized ones around 12#.

Rough coming back in and 2 hours of fish cleaning. Woot.
