All things STOCKS

Visa (V) has been my no. 1 for over 2 years. Strong in a down market and a killer in a good market.

And Apple has been strong for 18 months.

You know how I feel about Disney, nothing will move that needle up. How has PACB performed for you? I know you have mentioned a few times. I love BABA, Im in on that one too, ready for that split.

Stock splits are practically meaningless. Might create a little more short term volume and volatility for traders. Organizational splits are news worthy. Like Interactive Group spinning out Match dot com or when SAIC became 2 separate companies.

If you’re a swinger, keep an eye on IFMK today. Good for 10%

Would never buy IFMK unless its post a delisting and the company were to engage in a reverse split to become relisted, but that comes with a lot of intraday volatility. Also, there is no float (one shareholder owns ~50% of float, and limited sharecount to begin with) which increases bid ask. Pass from me.

Rate my portfolio:

$PACB
$VTI
$DIS
$BABA
$ABBV

Honestly, working at a Hedge Fund and managing a portfolio at a HF is 1000x different than managing an individuals money. Only think I would say is diversification is your friend. My PA I own 15 individual names, and numerous ETFs, ETNs, Index Funds, Mutual Funds, etc. With that being said, one of the smartest guys I know owns 20 funds within in PA and reevaluates his allocation every 6-12 months. Common misconception is that all index related funds are created equal. They aren't. Having numerous colleagues that work at Vanguard, T Rowe, PIMCO, Capital, Wellington, etc... I can tell you some places I wouldn't give a dollar of my own money. Some I would trust running all my personal money.

BABA is one of the names I own in my PA. ABBV and DIS are both very safe names but not names I would personally own. PACB I don't know well enough to opine and provide any value to you all.

Does BABA emulate AWS as well or just the AMZN retail platform?

Also, is BABA currency hedged or does it price significantly based on yuan/RMB versus US dollar exchange rates?

I like PACB. It’s the best in its space by far. Illumina doing everything they can to acquire them.

Well, name names/funds.

Sold it this morning. Up 10% in six weeks.

I actually like TWTR a lot at the moment. A lot of negative headlines tied to "fake news", "political risk", etc etc etc. With that being said, it is making a HUGE comeback amount individuals between 15-30. Will have massive volatility, so keep that in mind. We don't own the stock, but its a name I've kept an eye on for my PA.

Well, name names/funds

I'll try to keep this PC; but I have always respected the PM's, Research Analysts, and overall DD process at Fidelity, TCW, Wellington, Capital Group, Putnam, and Blackstone. Feel free to ask about individual managers if you'd like.

Well that sucks. Nightly Business Report (NBR) on PBS signed off permanently tonight after 41 years. Maybe it will return without the "produced by CNBC" branding. But right now BBC News is scheduled in the time slot next week.

I miss Wall Street Week with Louis Rukeyser.

Loved watching it on Friday nights back in the 80's and early 90's. My buddies thought I was nuts because everyone else was out partying.

You can't be a true conservative and watch PBS. That's unamerican.

Actually I think PBS has the best programming by far on TV, and I don't watch the news shows. But I have a very low opinion of TV programming these days.

I'm more in the Libertarian spectrum, but they might be more anti-PBS than the Right.

I haven't caught one lately, but I've seen a few episodes of Frontline that were good. Some Austin City Limits as well.

I manage portfolios for my son and daughter-in-law. Because they are relatively young and have years to grow their wealth, I invest aggressively in their portfolios. Their portfolios have averaged >20% compounded annual returns since I started managing their portfolios in 2013. Holdings in their portfolios are MELI, OKTA, TTD, MDB, MYOK, ROKU, SHOP, IDXX, NVDA, VEEV, SQ, V, PODD and SNPS.

I was speaking more about shows like masterpiece. I.e. Downton Abbey. Austin City limits is good. Bluegrass underground.

Libertarian? Then you support open borders?
Most libertarians I know won't watch pbs.

I said spectrum. Hard core Libertarians don't agree with all of my positions. Fiscally more right. Freedom more liberal. Not in favor of massive cuts to the military... protect the borders from the world's riff raff. Don't care to police every bit if the world, but when there are threats fighting them "over there" is the desired outcome. Homeland Security/Patriot Act is a good concept, unfortunately the 2 parties in charge have abused the purpose. But this isn't the Political Forum.

Agree. I'm fiscally right, support open borders and drastic cuts to military.
Horrible problem to me is Corporationism. Many libitarians only see govt as bad, and see corps as good.
Sorry to get ot.
