Many of you have remarked to the effect that it is hard to imagine a scenario in which a Republican takes the upcoming election. Well, I can name two right off the bat...

(1) Clinton gets nominated
(2) Obama gets nominated

As you know, I lean voraciously left, but I will straightforwardly tell you that I have my doubts the country elects either of those two potential nominees at this point in our history. I hope I am wrong. So, I will ask those of you who lean right...

Do you genuinely believe America elects either a woman or a black over the Republican field of frontrunners if the election were held tomorrow?

Obama--no, as bigoted as this might sound, America is not going to elect somebody with the middle name "Hussein"

Clinton--maybe, if she survives the primaries relatively intact it will all depend on whether or not America wants another Clinton in the White House.

further, Clinton and Obama are beating themselves up right now and history has shown that candidates who peak early are rarely around when it counts (Dean in '04, McCain in 2000). I am of the opinion that the eventual nominees from both sides have yet to officially declare their candidacy.

we are screwed if either one of them are elected. i heard on a radio show from a guy who was in Clintons cabinet that Hil was going to raise taxes by a third, and that she is lying about pulling troops. He said that she won't pull because she doesn't want to look weak. Just thought that was interesting.

I can't even figure out why Obama is a real candidate. I truely don't have a problem with a black president as long as he is qualified. Which leads me to ask why is Obama qualified? What is his experience? What are his views and what has he done in the past? People talk about Bush's foreign policy but does he have any experience?

As far as Clinton goes... I just don't see it.

Thompson vs. Gore?

I think the majority of Americans are beyond this being an issue. Obama's biggest problems are one, he has no real experience and two his name. I know I said America was past that. But I think we are past the race thing, terrorism and its link to anything sounding Islamic is another story. Hillary is just so damn polarizing and will energize the base of her opponent. But all in all the woman thing and the black thing I think are irrelevant.

I don't have a lot to back this up with but I think there would be a black man as president before a woman. I know many women who don't think a woman should be the president.

I agree. Unfortunate as it is, I wonder if American voters will be smart enough that there's no connection between a Senator from Illinois and a deceased dictator in Iraq or head of Al-Qaeda.

I will start by saying I lean to the right, I feel as though if Billary or Obama win the primary that you might as well hand the election to the right. And furthermore I agree with MG1968 the two chossen ones are not even in the race, it will be Thompson on the Right and you libs better hope it is Gore on the LEFT.

It's not just any woman but THAT woman many won't vote for.

get ready, though; you know doggone well that the more popular Obama gets, every Fox News-esque outlet and speaker will refer to him by his full name every time they open their mouths...I've already seen it some.

Being a democrat doesn't necessarily mean you are a liberal. I am a democrat yet both liberal and conservative on different issues. Conservative on fiscal issues and liberal on social issues.

Whomever said Obama wasn't qualified is stupid. He is more qualified than W. He is a brilliant man and well versed on most issues.

I don't think the issue will be black or gender for Obama and Clinton should they make the general election. It will come down to the same old tactics by the republican machine. They will try to scare you into thinking either are too liberal and to vote for the lesser of evils. It is the only way Bush could ever get elected. Hopefully, our country has learned from that mistake. Thompson looks great right now to the republicans, but he will have issues come up for him as well. No way Gore gets the democrat nomination....I would like to see Evan Bayh get in there.

.

So you are saying he is qualified and use this little anecdote as your proof. Might want to reach a little higher than that.

I think you may be the one who is stupid. I never said he wasn't qualified. I asked what his stance on issues are and what he has done to be considered qualified. Try reading first before you call someone stupid or risk making yourself look stupid.

I'm not persuaded of this.

I am so bored of hearing some of you lob this lack of experience thing at Obama. Just how do you get experience to be president anyway? It's on the job training no matter what your resume. Experience DOES NOT translate to success or a popular legacy in high office. Find some other reason to diss Obama; that one isn't working..his popularity is soaring despite his name, color and work history. Whatever happens in '08, this man is going BIG places...get used to it.

So Obama is popular with the liberal media and has written some books that people like. Nobody has "dissed" Obama. I am asking for REASONS on why he would be a good president and keep getting he is popular and smart. What are his stances on issues and what has he done in the past?

Experience does matter, it is one of the more important aspects in any profession. Is someone a sure failure without it? No. But it certainly can be of great use. Sounds like you are using his race, etc. to "diss" him.

Don't ask those questions JZ, that is tantamount to "dissing" him. Are you questioning his abilities? He is super popular dude!

I'm just trying to figure out why people think he would be a great president. I hear over and over we need to find someone who can unite the people. I don't see him being a figure that would unite our nation.

popular and smart gives him two legs up on what we've had for the past 7 years. As for his stances on the issues - what am I, Google? This man is a candidate for president of the United States. Perhaps you should take a few minutes to learn these things for yourself? Who knows, you might like him.

Forget about Bush's foreign policy and you tell me how W was qualified to be President. Better yet, give me a list of his accomplishments prior to his arrival at the white house.

Of course it is . . . but the learning curve is certainly longer for a guy with no executive experience and less than a full term in the Sentate.

So you are claiming how smart he is, yet when someone asks an honest question on his views, you tell him to google. You know all about him, you can't help JZ out?
