Alternative ways to help Joe Milton take a little off his long ball.

Magnifying glasses so receivers look like they are 10 yards downfield when they are really 40 yards down field.

Maybe try a few of these things:
Hypnosis: “ you’re getting very sleepy Joe and that football 🏈 you’re holding needs to be GENTLY thrown”
Meditation: Joe chanting “I will softly throw the ball, I will softly throw the ball”
Prayer: “oh please heavenly big orange Father, help me to slowly and deliberately throw the ball to the receiver, not to the fans in the stands”.
Down a pre game bottle of Jack Daniels: “ man, I am feelin so loosey goosey, time to just loft a few touchdowns, nice and easy”.
Wrist weights: “yeah, Coach Heup made this 10 pound wrist weight for me to wear on my throwing arm, he says I’ll only be able to throw the ball 60 yards now instead of 70”.
People are weird. People on Volnation, are even more so.

WOW congratulations, you laid a trap out there and sucked in a large portion of the SNARKY IS GOOD posters on the board. This might need to go into the board Brer Rabbit hall of fame. A real role reversal for sure.

I prefer to think of it as a “managing expectations” thread.

It’s mental. He’s been better in mop up than as a starter. Idk how to fix that but I don’t think it’s physical.

be the ball...throw the ball...be the ball....sport shrink time.
You're probably closer than you think. He exhibits the same issue I have in my golf game. When you get the brain involved it tightens everything up to the point you can no longer perform even the smaller tasks. Paralysis by Analysis . sports Shrinks can help with that.

His ability to judge time and distance is a little off. He seems to lack the ability to throw the ball to the right "spot" on the field is the true issue challenge here. I think his accuracy is based on him not realizing how strong his arm really is, he needs some one-on-one with a QB coach that can teach him how to control that howitzer of an arm. Love the guy, how do you teach someone to take a little off that throw?

By now one would assume they've pushed every button and pulled every lever they can think of. Milton is who he is and so is this team. To be in this position is miraculous. Don't know about any other awards, but Heupel is the COTY and it's not close IMO.

Get him to throw the long ball to the defender, that way he overthrows to the receiver.

Its all mental. Don't give him time to over think it and give him intermediate to short throws where he can gain a rythm. He started chucking it and airmailing it against Vandy. And in response we just kept going back to the long ball. Instead make things easy for him and let him know its ok if he underthrows.

Don't think, it can only hurt the club. Crash Davis

There is always the question of over thrown vs under run. Getting off the line and into top speed has been an issue on some of these plays. Just like the way overblown criticism he received for OVER THROWING the guy in the endzone last year. Including reports it went through the goal posts or into the stands. As I have posted before, a lot of URBAN MYTH around this QB. One more time I will post the shot of the UNDER ELEVATED backup TE with the ball between his hands. Notice you cannot see his fingers on his left hand and you have to strain to tell if he is actually OFF the ground. Perfect pass? NO. Catchable? YES... Worthy of all the flack he took? Absolutely not.

Exactly. His long ball has gotten better but the staff seemed to dial up long ball after long ball for him. Short to medium stuff to continue to move the ball and get in a rhythm, then drop a deep one. That's what they did a lot of for Hooker. Sideline to sideline and some over the middle stuff before going deep. With Joe it seemed they took more deep pass throw
The short to medium stuff has a greater percentage chance of being caught than long balls.

Fingers said they have fitted him with one of these devices. It is kinda like having a large tight rubber band around your right arm. It restricts his range of motion. You tether the strap off his waist, and in pre-game warmups adjust the tension based on how far he is overthrowing.

We will probably start off with his dialed down about 20% and then adjust as required.
