Am I a bad person?

If I'm pulling for Utah to beat Alabama? I know I am supposed to go for the "conference" and I will, just not Bama. I could honestly care less that they represent the SEC, I will NEVER wish Alabama the best.

Oh that is so awful... I don't know if they will be able to pull it off without you pulling for them:neener2:

This year I learned that most Bama fans are pretty new bandwagon types. Especially since Saban got there. They think that UT is their rival instead of Auburn. Anyways, it gets them more angry when you tell them that Florida is our #1 rival and that we don't really care about Bama that much. I usually admit that they are bound to have a good season every now and that kind of gets our attention but the so called rivalry lost it's magic after beating them 7 years in a row.

I'm not sure that could be any more wrong. I really hope there was a bunch of sarcasm I missed

Nah you are not bad. Who doesn't like to knock on Bama fans? There is a better way to knock on Bama than rooting for Utah.

Remind them that their QB is gone now and it's just a matter of time before their coach is gone too. This was their season and they blew it. Just like they blew it in 99 when they lost to UT at home and ruined their National Title hopes that year. Most Bama fans don't even remember their 99 season.

:)

Personally, I like to pull for Any team that beats us. So that the next time that Florida or Alabama take a pounding it will be from UT and no one else. Too bad one had to lose to the other... otherwise we could have beat em both.

How is the weather in Idiotville?

and for the record I agree with KD, there is nothing positive for UT if bammer and UF win. Pull for them if you wish (and try to convince yourself it helps UT) but it's really a backwards way of thinking. Do you really think it makes teams like MSU, UK, etc look any better?

Blahblahblah.... Screw Bammer.
I didn't read the whole thread, but VBN, you are a bad person and it's not because you're pulling for Utah.

No that does not make you a bad person.
It makes you a true Vol fan.
I can say to this day, I have never rooted for Bama against anyone, and will not start now or never.
Go Utes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:good!:

I will only root for Tennesse. I'm proud to be in the SEC, but I won't cheer for anyone else ever. I think that is what sets us (the SEC) apart from other conferences is that we will eat our own. It's Vols or nothing baby!

Amen, brother. Preach it!

I don't like seeing any of those teams win, but I will root for them regardless in bowl games and against the ACC always for the sole reason to be able to smack talk my idiot friends that believe the ACC is a legitimate conference and winning it means something. If that means needing Bama and Florida to win to shut up idiot VaTech fans (probably the dumbest in the country way beyond Georgia, Florida, or Alabama fans) then so be it, I will wear a bama shirt the day they play Utah if thats what it takes for the hokie morons to admit the ACC is crap and the SEC is the dominant power in football....but i digress, i usually root for any southern state team against any non-southern team (if the state didn't secede, then the teams not for me) lol

but i will NEVER cheer for virginia tech under any circumstances ........ever

I had this discussion regarding Florida in their last Championship game. I side with those who believe that success of your biggest rivals hurts you. We are certainly in a lot more recruiting battles with Florida and Alabama than with Utah. The more they win, and the more championships they win, the more ammunition their coaches have in pulling recruits their way.

Bottom line: the SEC is a football powerhouse. Fans and players all know that. We don't need bowl victories to justify that. And, we certainly don't need Alabama and Florida increasing their bragging rights in the South.
Excellent point. Go Utes and Boomer Sooner.

of course i never actually would, i think my body would begin melting like the nazis on raiders of the lost ark, but my point was id rather see the SEC do well than give wins to the other conferences especially the ACC, and for the record while i never would wear a bama shirt i would wear one twice before a VT shirt ever touched me

Not at all. I want Bama and FL to lose. My hate for those teams supercedes my love for the SEC.

I used to think that our rivals doing well helped us...but now I believe it's killing us in recruiting the highest level players. I hope they both get embarrassed.

I hope not because I will pull against Georgia, Florida, and Alabama. I'm glad UT is in the SEC and will pull for the SEC more times than not but I will never pull for the aforementioned teams, ever.

Exactly! I will cheer for all of these guys to lose! More so Florida out of any of them.

When it comes to bowls, I will pull for any SEC team. Why? Because when it comes to BCS consideration next year it is important. If all the SEC teams lose, that makes the entire conference look weak. Therefore when it comes to our players winning awards(Eric Berry), their hype falls because the rest of the country looks at the SEC as weak. Also, when it comes to BCS bowls and playing for NCs, it is extremely important. Do you think LSU would have played for the NC last year with 2 loses if they played in the ACC or Big East? It was the national recognition that the SEC is the toughest conference. You don't get that by losing big games.

Makes sense that the Vol faithful would pull for whatever outcome works for the betterment of Tennessee. When it comes to Bama, your logical tradeoff is recruiting vs. conference perception. CountVolcula nailed the issues associated with conference perception. Those issues could very well work to Tennessee's favor in future years. Provided the conference continues to demonstrate its superiority.

Recruiting is the other side of the coin. If you believe other SEC teams' success in bowls translates to taking away recruits that otherwise would have gone to Tennessee, that argues for hoping SEC teams lose in bowls. (IMO this is dubious logic... but your perceptions are what matters.)

That's it for logic. From an emotional standpoint, if you simply can't stand Bama, check logic at the door and pull for Utah. Simple.
