That's a tad bit of a bastardization of my stance. My contention is that the evolution of mankind has an inevitable leftward movement. Take any increment of time and look at how society changes.
Take the US and look at 1780, 1820, 1860, 1900, 1940, 1980, and 2020.
And as far as a societies collapsing. Look at what it's replaced by and what it eventually becomes.
Finally, look at the countries that have governments (religions) trying to restrict that natural movement left. The contention that all nations fail and fall because of their leftward progression is asinine. More fail from the ones with power trying to restrict the natural movement left.

Given enough time, all nation states have failed, "progressive" or otherwise.

That wasn't the "progress" I was talking about. I was talking computers and information technology. The marriage of tech and government into the surveillance state would not be good progress, but that's a separate discussion.

AI is coming whether we what it or not. Who's going to be the global leader? And is the US workforce ready for it? I don't hear much talk of it from the presidential candidates other than Yang.

let me see if I have this straight ... you say all nations ( mankind ) has a natural progression to the left , and in the same breath you say most nation fall because they were trying to stop that ? Where do you see authoritarianism, monarchies , and communism on the left of center or the right of center ?

It only comes and you can’t stop it when you decide you are like the others . The United States is it’s own country , we don’t have to be like any of the others ( see metric system and Celsius system ) . Just because they are doing something doesn’t mean we have to . If we end up with a social credit system with facial recognition like China , it’s because we allowed it and it will be the worst thing we ever allowed to happen to our rights and freedoms .
