I get what you are saying Huff. These are just tools to address the imbalance, which should be more fair. Not to mention the intellectual property theft which has cost us trillions. Like it or not they are a competitor and a strategic threat.

As far as the current impact, I would be more interested in further data. Their economy is the worst in decades right now and we are doing rather well. That may be skewing the deficit accounting.

I have no faith in our governments to fix this.

Forget about China. Sure there is IP theft and trade is the most complicated with them...just completely forget about them. We're still waging trade wars with a variety of countries. The USMCA does not make trade freer. That's all you need to know about Trump.

None of our trade agreements are that great. They authorize too much protectionism, but that's not Trump's problem with them. If a free trade president were replacing the TPP with a better deal, that's great. We've got a protectionist who is just pulling out of trade agreements with nothing in place and seemingly no plan.

Fun fact: the crowning free trade achievement of the USMCA is that Canada will relax dairy protections, but we were already going to get that with the TPP.

what’s the alternative at this point? How do we get back? Trump is a bag of crap. The Democrats offer no one that’s any different than he is. Both Democrats and Republicans are busy pointing out how bad the other is but both are unwilling to recognize the real situation. There’s no real difference between Democrats and Republicans. The difference is actually between the people and political figures

I agree. All I can do is continue to support those who say they will do something about it, and then immediately stop supporting them the moment they go back on that commitment.
