Biden, by contrast, claims to recognize that drug users should not be treated as criminals, but he still thinks they should threatened with criminal penalties. "I don't believe anybody should be going to jail for drug use," Biden said last month. "They should be going into mandatory rehabilitation. We should be building rehab centers to have these people housed."

Mandatory rehab is a waste of money and bad policy.

Rehab works when the addict is ready for it to work.

I’ve sent hundreds of people to “mandatory” rehab to escape jail time. Most of them failed and ended up going to jail longer than if they had just let me negotiate a plea that involved jail time.

The ones who didn’t fail out of rehab were ready to stop.

(Prosecuting drug crimes criminally is also expensive and bad policy.)

Agree. Joe needs to go to "lock em up" rehab - it's his go to approach. Guess it's a way to create some good union jobs in building out our network of rehab centers

Also add that not all drug users are drug abusers any more than alcohol users are alcohol abusers.

It seems like it’s basically the same thing as going to a traffic class to avoid the points on your license . Just pay court cost and the cost of the class and you are good to go speed again . Pay us the money and we will cut you a break . Lol

Stupid isn't the problem so much as it's commitment to stupid. Carter was incompetent in many ways but somehow he created the economic framework for the boom in the 80's and didn't do much that resulted lasting harm. Conversely, we've had smart presidents with commitment to seemingly reasonable ideas that turned out to be disasters. For example, Nixon was brilliant and I don't think there was much opposition to the war on drugs and we know how that turned out.

As long as Biden isn't overly committed to anything, this may not turn out "that bad" [crosses fingers]

I usually don't trust men who don't drink, and I definitely don't trust men who don't like dogs. He checked both those boxes. On that basis alone, you should be ashamed to hug his nuts so tightly.
