Amazon lands The Lord of the Rings TV series

But then I thought War of The Rohirrim was pretty decent. A very solid 8.5. They changed a couple of things from the story but all the characters definitely fit perfectly within Tolkien’s Legendarium.

There’s no magic and no elves, but it is still very Tolkien to the core. Tolkien was notorious for drawing on Germanic/Old English ideas like the Beowulf circle of light and fighting even when death is absolute and it ticked those boxes perfectly.

Appreciate the response on the show. Makes me feel a little better about giving it another shot. Regarding the animated film, I haven't read the source material in years and years (and I think what material exists is pretty bare to begin with) so I have little reference point to choose to dislike something because it wasn't faithful to the source. I just thought it was disjointed and some parts didn't really make sense/were not explained. Also and maybe this is just me but were they using the original music like.. a whole lot? Or did I imagine that? I love the music but at some point it felt like they were just trying to give us the member berries lol.

They did use the Rohan theme several times, which I didn’t mind too much since it’s about Rohan.

Where I did mind the member berries was with the Watcher in the Water. To me, it didn’t really serve any purpose other than a member berry.

As far as the lore goes, it is very bare but they filled in the blanks in a way that felt
Tolkien-esque to me. The only big change was they had Hera kill Wulf instead of Frealaf.

I’m hoping it does well enough to warrant more animated Tolkien adaptations. I think the only way to really get the Silmarillion on the big screen is through animation.
