An Amicable Divorce?

OrangeYankee, it appears we line up almost completely.

On the Moral Majority et al, there are some that are just as guilty of wanting to use gov't force as the otherside. I agree with many of James Dobson's desires for society but believe he crosses the line way too often with his desire to use gov't to reach them. Pat Robertson is another but to a lesser degree.

The original American ideal was that each individual was sovereign and that if you wanted to change society you did it by convincing people... not forcing them. I still believe in that ideal and think it should cut both ways.

There are some in the Christian "right" that get a bad rap though. Jerry Falwell was demonized mercilessly by the leftist MSM. However he was a genuinely gracious person. Some of his actual written and spoken positions line up generally with what you and I have stated here.

On the whole though, I believe the "busybody-ness" is much more prevalent on the left. If someone disagrees with them on virtually anything, they start demanding a law to force agreement.

The only beef I had with Falwell was when he opned his mouth about the Tele Tubbies. I completely understood what he was saying, but really he should have (or at least his PR folks) seen that crapstorm coming from a mile away.

And yes we are Sj, and "The original American ideal was that each individual was sovereign and that if you wanted to change society you did it by convincing people... not forcing them. I still believe in that ideal and think it should cut both ways" is very true. However I think the valuses should be sold via the Temples, Churches, and Libraries not through Legislation via the true way or via the bench.
