Jabari Small and Jaylen Wright will need to be better this year or they’ll be watching a whole lot of Dylan Sampson and DeSean Bishop from the sideline come fall. This offense with backs that are legitimate big play guys will be darn near impossible to stop with quality line play. Heupel knows this.

seldon over bishop, only reason he isn't getting more run is bc he's been in non-contact jersey

0% chance of this being the case

95% of fans have no idea how mentally demanding the running back position is at this level, nor how much depth of knowledge is available to be gained year-to-year with experience in the film room and pre-snap defensive reads that add yardage in the secondary on Saturday.

I hope Small can stay healthy long enough to demonstrate his mastery of the position, and Wright is going to run so much better than last year, if this year's line can match or exceed last season's.

I think y'all are looking into spring practice too much. Some of those will RS. I expect Bishop to be one of those.

Jaylen Wright played damn good and Small was hurt and still did good.

I have to disagree Bishop is and has been a running back. Sheldon has been playing multiple positions so one would assume Bishops experience is putting him in front. With that being said the talent will rise to the top. And both guys are extremely talented

The rotation will continue to be Small, Wright and Sampson this year (in any order you want to put them in). Like the good reports on newbies (we haven’t even seen Keith yet and he adds a big back dimension we don’t have), but highly unlikely they beat out the experienced backs. I’m convinced we are going to have our best rushing attack in years and may lean on it slightly more to complement Milton and to help sustain drives. Milton’s arm is going to frighten teams against the deep ball and they are going to have to make a decision. Do we protect against the big play with 2 safeties playing deep or do they take the risk that he overthrows our WRs? I suspect they will do the former and ask us to march down the field which will open it up for our RBs.

I also hope we use the RBs more in the passing game this year too. Small in particular may benefit in this role. He is the best in pass protection of the 3 and I think has the best hands. I think Sampson has the most upside and looks like the most natural rusher of the 3, but all are good solid backs. Wright is fast and shows some surprising strength despite size. Given Small gets banged up a lot I bet Wright starts, Small is more of a situational (passing downs, short yardage) back and Sampson gets similar amount of carries as Wright. If we punish some inferior teams on the scoreboard like I think we will, there is going to a lot of opportunities for the RBs to put a lot on film.

I have to think the older guys will continue to see the majority of reps simply due to things like pass-protection. Seldon & Keith may see reps in certain situations (Cam in creating mis-matches by motioning out wide & Khalifa in short-yardage). We finally possess a good stable of RBs, and that is so nice to have after the years with numerous injuries at that position.

Seldon gonna get more pt, he’s bigger and faster, and they can you use him ways then just as a HB

I imagine pass protection will tell the tale with Samson.

With our tempo offense, RBs need to be competent at every aspect.

That's the thing. Our offense doesn't really allow for situational personnel.

I don't see us routinely subbing guys in during live ball situations, not in our DNA, but having a deeper more diverse room to put different options in when the clock is stopped will definitely be an option. The eventual strengths of the new OL may favor the different mixes of size and speed we will have to choose from. IF IF IF some of them show really strong power ability then we may run a guy or TWO in on 3rd and 4th and short, play clock running or not.

Different strengths of the opponents defenses may change the sequencing of our backs. I am hoping that our younger backs have legitimately taken advantage of their early career starts and maxed out the learning curves, but expect the older guys to lead the way if healthy. But having speed like Sampson and Seldon with their diversity in the passing game to throw out there against tiring defenses seems like a great option. One we have not had the first two years under coach. You put them in and keep them in when in fast mode. I hope we get to see all our backs rotate in when game situations allow early on to see their readiness. If Keith is really a hammer there will be a time and place for him too, as a lead blocker and a short yardage carrier. Those skills require less time to display after a later arrival. Bishop early reps may be predicated on the health of the rest of the guys. I am just thrilled to have a room like this if they all pan out.

This is essential in today's environment RBs will threaten transfer if they are not given more in NIL. So. that forces a coach IMO to rotate more and see what they have to get out ahead of guys looking to extort for more money. You have to give them more reps to be ready, it is what its became. Sad but I'm still watching so far.

Great plays, yes , but they will need to ba able to block on pass plays extremely well. I expect the guy/guys who can run average most of the time and block really well all the time will likely get the most playing time.

If you are a really gifted runner all you want/need is to be pointed in the right direction, then shear speed and god given ability will take over... i.e. H Walker, Bo Jackson etc. I know they don't come along very often but they do come...
