This response (sheriff Roberts) pretty much sums up my previous idea.

You re asking for more of the same people (cops) that you ve been reluctant to stand behind because its become politically easy to just lump all police officers and forces into one group, to come in and undo weeks of lawlessness on the streets of Portland.
If you hold to your current form, the sheriff gives you a perfectly clear and easily understood response for what will happen by just adding more officers on the street. Nothing.

As I said earlier, if her and the mayor are really interested in regaining control of Portland, it aint gonna be pretty.

I just wonder what the endgame is for the mayors of these cities who are allowing this to go on? Do they think it is going to get them votes? Those who have common sense that vote Democrat, and the moderates are going to look at this and be appalled at what is going on. The Democrats are doubling down on their extremism and it is going to drive people with a brain to think away from their party on the national level.

The Antifa security guard reportedly being probed in connection with the deadly shooting of a President Trump supporter in Portland was photographed at a rally the night before — alongside his baseball bat-wielding teenage daughter.

Michael Forest Reinoehl, 48, was pictured late Friday at a Black Lives Matter protest outside the condominium building that is home to the Oregon city’s mayor, Ted Wheeler, The Oregonian said.

He caught the attention of a photographer because he was there with his 16-year-old daughter, who stood beside him carrying a dark baseball bat, the paper noted.

The former military man — who says he is “100% ANTIFA” — was wearing a distinctive white vest that appears to match one caught on videos of the fatal shooting of a counter-protester, the paper said.

Law enforcement sources have told The Oregonian that Reinoehl is being investigated for the killing, and his estranged sister also confirmed that she contacted police to say he was the man seen in now-viral videos.



Police insisted early Tuesday that the reports are “unverified and unconfirmed,” and Reinoehl has not been officially named as a suspect. No arrests have been announced in the ongoing investigation.

It doesn't matter what tactics the police use if the people are processed and released the next morning. It also increases the risk for a use of force lawsuit. There's zero upside to being a part of this if you don't have to be.

Agree. The DA and their crew should stop with the current non-prosecution of the low risk criminals/felons that keep revolving in and out of the Portland jail system. They're only enabling and reinforcing the idea, no matter what laws are broken, they'll be released the following day because of the DA's laziness.

As for the use of force, it's probably a safe assumption that once LE shows up in larger numbers, the ANTIFA crowd will not retreat entirely, in addition with their recent call to arms and body armor requests. IMO, they believe they're preparing for the inevitable. If I had to guess, whether or not LE engages more directly, they'll still see high numbers of excessive force claims and lawsuit, whether it was warranted or not. Judging by the mugshots, half of them would settle out of court today for a few hundred dollars and some bath salts.

Hey, your gang morphed "freedom of speech" from words to deeds. What would any rational person have thought could come of that? Further, when "freedom of speech" means one person can be louder than the first person attempting to convey a thought, you have chaos - or counter demonstrations. Civility doesn't come of chaotic anti social behavior, and neither does compromise or rational behavior. I always wonder about the sanity and ethics of someone who would argue in court (where rules are meant to maintain order) that anarchistic/chaotic "free speech" is civil behavior.

No. It won't be.. This will be no easy task. I don't believe lethal force will be required, but using older, more proven tactics that are now frowned upon, may be necessary.

Question is does the local and state leadership have the intestinal fortitude to continue and clear out the rioters, at the risk of losing their votes come future elections.

Have to wait and see.

The words are just words. I feel bad for the people yelling them. It takes a mentality of possibly a 12 year old to think you're actually having an effect on another adult by yelling insults. A lot of it is homophobic too which I find interesting given how inclusive this is supposed to be. Speaks to who's in the crowd really.

To some extent, but after awhile they can tune most of it out. They're still professionals with a job to do.
