Is this confirmed anywhere ?

No, I haven't seen anything "confirmed". It seems there was quite a few reports saying he is their leader, and a couple saying he was offered. But, I guess no one knows right now.

James Franklin has need been named the top candidate but he hasn't "officially" been offered the job, but no one is until they accept the offer.

@jefflockridge of the Tennessean is reporting that there is a chance Franklin will turn down PSU and stay at Vandy. It is all rumors on both sides, but I would say it is 50/50.

I look at it like this. If he leaves, thank God because despite being a decent coach he is a prick. If he stays, it will be looked back upon in 5 years as one of the biggest mistakes in recent history. He has benefited from Dooley and the fact the whole SEC is down. Tennessee, UGA, USC, UF, and Missouri all have too much talent for the SEC East to be down too much longer. When that happens Vandy will go back to being a 5-6 team.

Franklin will jump ****, it's just a matter of where. He's losing a lot of starters. He either abandons ship or goes down with the wreckage. All that to mock his anchor down bs!

I agree. I am ambivalent to the whole scenario. If he leaves, it will be fun watching Vandy nation. If he stays, we'll see him as a career loser at Vandy, or shuffled off as an assistant somewhere in the future.

If he closes this window, he is an absolute moron.

Both of these scenarios would make me very happy. However, I would prefer to see him stay and get his teeth kicked in. IMO, he's working hard to get the hell out of Nashville. I don't believe I've ever seen a coaches name attached to so many vacancies. I agree that Franklin has elevated that program to some degree but I don't think it warrants the kind of attention he's getting.

He's obviously a good coach, but let's not pretend his record is inflated given the current state of the SEC east and his beneficial scheduling.

Before I say UT will destroy him, I need to see it first. Likewise, before I slobber all over his record, I need to see the wins against ranked opponents.

What I dont want to happen is for him to turn down PSU and then wind up going to Florida after Muschamp is ran off.

Good Grief why??? He's a good coach but he's not elite by any stretch. At least we don't have enough info yet to draw that conclusion. He's owned UT for the 2 worst years of UT football in a long long time (thanks Coach Doofus). If he stays, they will not beat UT next year (or is it this year now). He's done a really fine job at Vandy, maybe the best ever for that school. But he has had some favorable things happen to the teams in the sec east that just won't let me put him in an elite category. :peace2:

I dont want him to go to UF because UT needs all the help they can get in beating them. No matter how bad they suck they seem to have UT's number. Like it or not.

Won't argue with that point, but Franklin being there means nothing to that discussion IMO. But there is a Jimmy Frank lovefest going on in these pages and I just don't have enough data to agree with it. He COULD be that good, just not enough solid data to support it with all of the mitigating factors to his record. This year especially.:peace2:

just got this off VandyMania.....

@chatsports is a Twitter feed with 10,000 or so followers. But they are based in San Francisco, CA and have not until now been reporting on the story.

*Updated 1/7/14, 9:26pm ET

According to a source in Happy Valley, Penn State will hire James Franklin to be Penn State‘s next football coach before the end of the week. While Penn State anticipated the deal getting done Monday or Tuesday, Vanderbilt reportedly matched PSU’s offer, extending negotiations. Penn State is fully expected to make a new offer and Franklin is expected to accept, but this could delay the finalization of the move as Franklin’s agent works on getting him the best deal possible.

He's going to PSU.

Hearing out Vandy's counteroffer was a formality, IMO.
