And some of you guys think we'll finish 8-4

If the lines play outside of their projections I could see 8-4 with a little help from someone like a Georgia, USCe, or Florida.

We should know right away where Tennessee stands...Utah State is not a Western Ky or Austin Peay. I watched their game with USC last year and they kept it close throughout. They won't be intimidated by Neyland either. Utah State played Wisconsin to a 16-14 loss in Camp Randall 2 years ago and Auburn needed an onside kick at to beat them in 2011. It will be a close game, they have a good program.

SEC teams with the most returning lettermen | Saturday Down South

What does it matter to you what others think? We can be individuals and decide for ourselves what to think. It doesn't matter what we think to begin with, what matters is what actually happens. I love the off season where even Vol fans can't dream of being good. Other fan bases are getting to imagine how this year will be different, but people like you won't even let our fans do that. Listen, people on here can talk because, and I will restate it, the games matter not what we say or think on here.

It's pretty clear you wouldn't know it if it jumped up and kicked you in the face. Utah State isn't a team to take lightly.

Give it up, bearcat.......you're trying to reason with a poster who spouts nonsense 90% of the time.

What baffles me is that so many on here think we will absolutely go down to Columbia and take care of business against USCjr. Did anyone notice they return the most players in the SEC, we play at their house, and that Spurrier might be a little motivated to prove to his fanbase that last year was a fluke?

It baffles you that Tenn fans think they have a chance to beat one of the 5 teams they beat last year? Even since Tennessee's collapse began in 2005 which coincided with Spurrier taking over, Tenn has held there own with them and even the games they lost were close. I think SC will win but there is no reason for our fans not to be confident.

The way I see it is that we lost 29 players that had become accustomed to mediocracy, and replaced them with 29 hungry players! Thinking positive! :whistling:

Just like we "did" against South Alabama and Troy? Two teams nowhere as good as Utah State

Hopefully this is the last year we have to have any concerns or doubts about games like this. I hope our line will be up to the task of just taking over the game for us

Much better team this year. That was last year, that wasn't this year.

With this team, we shouldn't be overlooking anyone

Pre game before Utah state... Butch jones says this in the locker room... " ok men you've busted your asses all spring and summer, put in all the work to be great, this is a new season. It's not just a new season it's the beginning of a new era, now let's go out there and do what a university of Tennessee team should do to a poverty team from a poverty conference and make them wish that Neyland never had them."

I hope for a good season as much as anyone on here, but I'm certain that very few, if any, of the people on here claiming an 8-4 season would be willing to put a few thousand bucks on it in Vegas. Reality would set in when you had something to lose.

However, If they end up overachieving I will gladly come back to this post in December and eat Crow. Either way, GBO.

I certainly understand the thought about returning starters. But I ask, is it really a bad thing if the majority of the starters are gone who were on the field for the bad blowout losses (to Oregon, Bama, Auburn and Mizzou) and ridiculous loss to Vandy last year?Maybe not.

UT is going to mop the floor with u state... I'll be accepting your apology September 1 at.

Apologize? Do my opinions hurt your feelings or something? If we mop the floor with Ut St I will give you credit for being right, but apologize? No.

I think 9-4 is a possibility but that assumes the breaks go our way this year, like in 98. I still think the most likely outcome is 8-5 after bowling.

What this article doesn't tell you is how many gators and bulldogs are coming off horrendous injuries. Chances are some of them won't be the same mentally or physically.

With all due respect, replacements for Sapp and Brewer will be immediate upgrades over last year. Daniel Hood and Jaques Smith played hard but I see the highly talented incoming freshmen being at least as good as them this season. Many of last years starters wouldn't start this year if they came back.

Bottom Line: We will make up for experience with talent this season. Next season, we will have both!

Every year guys get on here and suggest that the incoming Freshman players are going to come in and be better than or just as good as the 3-4 year starters that just graduated. And every year, when those Freshmen don't live up to the expectations set for them, the fans start all over suggesting that they will be replaced by the next crop of incoming players. It seems to be a very cyclical process on VN.
