Andrew Luck is staying at Stanford

I love seeing it when student athletes do this. Shows that not all of them are in it for the money. I respect that he actually enjoys being in college and loves college ball. Instead of just being in it for the minimum with his eye on the NFL signing bonus.

not $50 mil
The Lucks are loaded. It's not like the NFL money is going to lift his family out of public housing. It's the difference between really, really rich and obscenely rich. I wouldn't do it, but I certainly understand it.

I'm sure a Stanford degree can help him make a few bucks.

a furd degree is no guarantee of riches. drafted first in the nfl draft is. it's not that complicated. i'd be willing to bet the average furd graduate makes well under the NFL minimum.

Yeah, I'm sure the fact his family is loaded has nothing to do with it. He would have done the same if they were living in Cabrini Green.

They're plenty rich and even more connected.

according to wikipedia "current athletic director and a former quarterback at West Virginia University." that isn't big money by any stretch. at least not enough to support his kid for life.

Dude is a genius for not getting drafted by the Panthers

How is being drafted by the Panthers such a terrible thing? I wasn't aware that they are annual bottom-dwellers like the Lions, Bucs, Raiders, Chiefs (until this year), Rams, 49ers etc.

But, I wouldn't expect a bandwagon Colts fan to know anything outside of what Peyton Manning's jock smells like...

Great fall back if he were to become another Ryan Leaf. Say, what's that bust doing now anyways? Last time I read he was wearing pinstripes and I don't mean for the Yankees.

Oliver Luck is every bit as well off as Archie Manning was in 1996. He's also really tight with some of this country's richest people. If Andrew was a fourth teamer at Stanford, he'd still be on the cusp of an exceptionally lucrative post collegiate life.

I'd say this guy is getting the best advice possible. He seems to be a lot like Peyton, in that he enjoys the college experience and all.

Andrew Luck is a student first and then a football player. Its a smart kid. Terrellle Pryor is a dumbass first, athlete second and student 3rd. I can understand why Luck is staying.

A furd graduate with loaded parents that know a lot of rich people?

Luck's not ever going to have to worry about money

I wouldn't be expecting to hear of him begging on the streets after a flop career in football, if it were to happen.

By the way, love the avatar. :)

The former CEO of Domino's is the AD at Michigan. Guess his ass is broke, too. I'm sure Luck walking away from a bunch of businesses in Houston that were printing money or being Ken Kendrick's right hand man had nothing to do the fact he's now loaded enough and wants to help the old alma mater out.</p>

$200K a year and comfortable isn't in the same league as $25 mil guaranteed. he can always go back and get his degree.

Agreed. If you've got the resources to stay in college ball and enjoy it so much that you'd turn down a lot of money to play pro ball, go enjoy it. (I personally wouldn't make that decision)

Nothing here screams big money to me. Comfortable certainly, but not comfortable enough for your kid to turn down $50 mil.

After retiring from football, Luck received a J.D. from the University of Texas, graduating in 1987 with honors,[7] and he practiced law in Germany. In 1990 he was the Republican nominee for Congress from West Virginia's Second Congressional District, which included his alma mater West Virginia University, but he was defeated by incumbent Democrat Harley Staggers, Jr. An ethical controversy arose after his campaign used a mailing list generated by the non-profit Mountaineer Athletic Club to send a photo of himself as WVU's quarterback, along with a letter from Luck, to over 4000 of the club's contributors. A state Ethics Commission report subsequently found that the list had been generated at Luck's request, and Luck apologized.[8]

In 1991, he became general manager of the Frankfurt Galaxy of the fledgling World League of American Football. He held the post for two years until the league was suspended. Upon its resumption in 1995 he became GM of the Rhein Fire, and was named league president the following year. Luck held that role until 2000, during which time he oversaw the league's rebranding as NFL Europe, intended to strengthen the connection between the league and its parent, the NFL.

In 2001, Luck was sworn in as Chief Executive Officer of the Houston Sports Authority. In this role he oversaw the operations of the Harris County Houston Sports Authority, the governmental entity created in 1997 to provide the financing, construction and management oversight of the three large sports and entertainment venues in Houston: Minute Maid Park (home of the Houston Astros), Reliant Stadium, (home of the Houston Texans and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo), and the new Downtown multi-purpose arena (home of the Houston Rockets and Comets).[citation needed]

Prior to joining the Sports Authority, Luck was a top-ranking executive with the National Football League for over ten years, where he served as Vice President of Business Development and President and CEO of NFL Europe.

Luck was recently named to the Academic All American Hall of Fame.[7]

In 2005, he was named president of the Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer. On June 27, 2008, Luck was appointed by West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin to the West Virginia University Board of Governors, effective July 1.[7] On June 9, 2010 Luck was hired as the Athletic Director of West Virginia University.

dude is a ****ing idiot

Yeah, having a father who is a Rhodes Scholarship finalist, former NFL player, lawyer, sports executive and current AD

+

Doing well enough with his own academics to get accepted at Stanford

=

Your conclusion.

I don't know what kind of logic they are teaching at Cal these days, in fact, I doubt they teach much at all given the reports I read.

I'm sure his dad isn't giving him any advice, either.
