I think about the best teams of the last 10 years and Tenn isn't even in the same universe right now.

Couldn't the same be said for those teams at this time during their seasons? In 2014 Ohio State wasn't looking too good early on yet they had that legend run to finish the year. Same could be said for Deshaun Watson's 2016 Clemson squad. Even the legendary 2019 LSU team was being questioned until they went beat Bama in Tuscaloosa.

Legendary status is attained by the end of the season. This early it's mainly about talent. And his assessment like mine is based on talent. I've been saying we're one of the best college teams in recent memory based on our talent level.

This is what I've been saying for months now. He also said the loss to Arkansas was the best thing to happen to us. Just like I did. This coach is super smart and knows what he's talking about.

That's an absurd take. Had we won at Arky and beat UF both convincingly, with Nico and the OL taking some steps from that OU game I might could see it. The OU game though revealed some things about our offense that absolutely have not been fixed and probably won't be any time soon.
We aren't even a top 10 team right now for this year. Much less a top 10 team over the last 10 years.

I don't even see us as a playoff team to be honest with you. Right now with how we are playing offensively, we are squarely one of those 8-4 or 9-3 teams. We are Penn State from 3 or 4 years ago. Sadly I think we'll be on the outside looking in come playoff selection time.

Yeah. I think we're gonna be lucky to get to 9-3. The Vandy game really scares me. I think we drop one more after Bama and UGA to put us at 8-4 which is gonna be a huge disappointment for this season with the way it started.

Anonymous coach is super smart? 🤔 we know nothing about this person other than their opinion and occupation yet we know enough to call them super smart?

Also, can someone find out if D4H is said “anonymous coach”?

I predicted 9-3 before the season started and I'm sticking with it. I just don't think 9-3 will be good enough to get into the playoffs.

I thought we'd go 10-2. And it was looking pretty good until that Arky debacle. The OU game was pretty revealing though that we had serious OL issues. Sucks that we have the best defense we've had in years and gonna throw that away with one of the worst offenses we've had in several years. Makes no sense under JH too.

Sam Pittman is really trying to pump up that win over us before facing LSU Saturday.

I could have looked at someone claiming this is still realistically a playoff team and thought it seeming hopeful at this point but not utterly absurd. There's simply nothing that supports the the hyperbolic take presented. We've slogged through a meh OK team, lost to a meh AR team and survived a bad FL team. That math doesn't work.

I appreciate the optimism but theres no way we make the playoffs. We will be lucky to end 9-3. Unless the offense has taken some magic potion this week and has a dramatic turnaround

Why? We will be favored in all the remaining games except Alabama and Georgia.

I am sorry, Vandy, UK, UTEP, and Miss State aren't the powerhouses people on this board made them out to be. Even with our struggles, we were a play away from beating Arkansas. Tennessee isn't as good as hyped after NC State but we are not near as bad as you are making us out to be.

Guess you know better than an actual coach who already played us.

There's a reason you're sitting on a couch on Saturdays instead of coaching from the sidelines. You can't see the forest from the trees. I'll bet anything after we beat Bama you'll change your tune.

Being favored doesn’t mean a guarantee of victory just like being an underdog isn’t a guaranteed loss. I wouldn’t be surprised if you ran the math with win probabilities if the most likely outcome wasn’t 9-3 with a better chance at 8-4 than 10-2.

The Athletic is a reputable service and they are the ones who interviewed this coach. I'm saying he's super smart because he sees what I see. A generational team that should be considered the odds on favorite to win it all.

Too many fans bought the "experts" take on Tennessee the first 3 weeks of the season and are now upset we are not beating teams by 2-3 TDs. Arkansas was awful, no defense on that one and Florida wasn't the best effort although Florida game saw improvement in that we had WRs open, we had plays, we just missed them. Surviving that game gave us momentum coming into this Saturday.

We are a 8-12 ranked team. If Nico and the offense can get things going again, we could bounce a little higher up in that view but Nico is still young and the offense is dealing with injuries, confidence issues, etc.

Or maybe the last 2 games were simply outliers and we're just set to get back on track? Yall are such prisoners of the moment. Can never look at the big picture.
