Anonymous coach to The Athletic: "Tennessee is one of the best teams I've seen in the last 10 years"

Don't forget the KY game....
KY has the same problems we do but worse. Their O is putrid but defense is servicable.

Glad we have them at home this year, but they are not a team that strikes a lot of fear into folks right now. I get the UGA and Ole Miss games make them look fearsome, but I am confident our D will make it a long time for the Kats.

This is what I've been saying for months now. He also said the loss to Arkansas was the best thing to happen to us. Just like I did. This coach is super smart and knows what he's talking about.
While I agree about the defense being the best I have seen at Tennessee in a very long time. I am wondering to what happen to the offense? While it’s great to hear these words of encouragement and confidence, I hate hearing these “sources” or people saying stuff and won’t out their names in it. If you’re gonna say it, at least be man enough to put your name with it. None the less, WGWTFA!!

Too many fans bought the "experts" take on Tennessee the first 3 weeks of the season and are now upset we are not beating teams by 2-3 TDs. Arkansas was awful, no defense on that one and Florida wasn't the best effort although Florida game saw improvement in that we had WRs open, we had plays, we just missed them. Surviving that game gave us momentum coming into this Saturday.

We are a 8-12 ranked team. If Nico and the offense can get things going again, we could bounce a little higher up in that view but Nico is still young and the offense is dealing with injuries, confidence issues, etc.
Same crap different year. When are people going to remember that the first month of the season is all media hype and cupcakes?

The real season doesn't start until Oct. Heck, even some of the first week losses by LSU and A&M really do not matter as much now.

That would be disappointing but I personally would not be hugely disappointed. Yes, I predicted 11-1 and still think we get to the playoffs at 10-2 after we beat Alabama Saturday. But the only way I’d be hugely disappointed is if we get blown out by both Alabama and Georgia. It feels like we’ve finally closed the gap with those two. As long as we stay competitive with them I’ll feel like a natty is within striking distance with Heupel
Lol, your expectation was 11-1 but your not going to be disappointed with 8-4? I expected 10-2, which was pretty reasonable, and going 8-4 is a failure IMO. If you told me before the first game of the season that our defense would be among the very best in the nation this year, I'd have changed my prediction to 11-1 with a decent chance to run the table, just operating under the assumption that our offense would take a step forward from last year. But...guess that's why we don't assume things.

Anonymous coach is super smart? 🤔 we know nothing about this person other than their opinion and occupation yet we know enough to call them super smart?

Also, can someone find out if D4H is said “anonymous coach”?
Yeah, not sure why anyone would get amped over this. He feels so strongly about his complimentary views that he won’t even put his name on it. Even Lou Holtz would proudly tout other teams and build them up in ridiculous fashion.

Coach or analyst who says anything remotely critical about our team and he’s a moron.

Coach or analyst showers praise in our team and the guy is a genius worthy of our admiration.

Our Offense has to score points. Simple as that, but it must be pretty complicated based on the offensive output in SEC play.
The D is great. Our secondary was the question mark, and have proven themselves to be good enough for a winning defense. The offense has to be better.
Our team looks too much like Iowa's regular season last year. Our offense is better than their's last season, but not by much.

Well, one thing we do know…no coach is anywhere as smart as the geniuses on here!

We can talk "National Championship" team after the Georgia game (probably won't
be the Vols though)

Ceiling is high. Floor is low. We find out a lot Saturday.
I think with Huepel, right now it's the opposite. He has a high floor. We're never going to do worse than 8-4 or 9-3 with him which, to his credit, is a damn site better than what we had been doing. But what about his ceiling? What's the maximum he can achieve here? With the advent of the 12 team playoff, bowl games will become even more meaningless than before. So 8-4 and playing in the Taxslayer Bowl is not even a moderately successful season anymore. Minimum, we HAVE to become a consistent annual participant in the 12 team playoff or our program is not on a positive trajectory!

That coach has obviously not seen our offensive line. Absolute garbage.

I don't even see us as a playoff team to be honest with you. Right now with how we are playing offensively, we are squarely one of those 8-4 or 9-3 teams. We are Penn State from 3 or 4 years ago. Sadly I think we'll be on the outside looking in come playoff selection time.
We will know in about 27 hours.

Big difference between “disappointed” and “hugely disappointed”, IMO. When I think about being hugely disappointed, I imagine myself losing confidence in Heupel. I think he’s positioned us to be perennial national championship contenders and I don’t expect that to change even if we go 8-4. It’s only a matter of time before we get the OL playing better and things slow down for Nico. If we lose a couple more games before that happens, I’ll be disappointed but not “hugely”

If they are calling this a top 10 team over the last 10 years then they are making a mockery of top 10 teams.

Or maybe the last 2 games were simply outliers and we're just set to get back on track? Yall are such prisoners of the moment. Can never look at the big picture.

We’ve pooped the bed offensively starting with the second half of the OU game. We’ve scored 43 points in those 10 quarters. I don’t think that’s an outlier. But I hope you are right

I think Heard looked OK early on till he got injured. Speculation is that he got out of shape during the layoff and hasn’t gotten back into game shape. He certainly looks heavy and slow. Some of the issue is that the depth at tackle is very thin. Personally I thought Johnson showed promise in the Oklahoma game and should get some more time. Dayne Davis gives his best but he’s just not an SEC caliber starting lineman. He got abused at LT when they tried him there.
I paid attention to him early and thought he moved great. Looks very different last game. Hope he's coming back.
