The businesses getting looted had nothing to do with the man's death. The people having their property destroyed had nothing to do with the man's death. Lawlessness isn't the way to protest against the police. What those police officers did to that man was 100% wrong, and they deserve to go to jail. I have no problem with a peaceful protest to push that message. But using it as an excuse to steal a new TV or whatever is false outrage. Hell, it just encourages police to beat more people up. So idiotic.
I dont think Ras was saying it was a good thing. He was just giving his take on where society is.
It's the young man, old man scenario. When you are young you have no fear of death cause you have nothing to lose. When you are old you are way more cautious because you have worked hard and dont want to lose these things.
The Michigan crowd all probably owned cars, owned homes, took vacations.
This crowd is clearly much less financially secure. They have zero to lose.
The problem is this country is getting damn expensive. Homes are starting off around 400k now in metro Nashville. Yes, all of us on this sight can easily afford that but this forum probably is close to the norm for medium salaries as we are all politic nerds. The average person today cant afford a new home.
I am 44. My parents didnt have a cellphone bill, cable bill, internet tv, mortgages that are thousands of dollars, 2 car payments because both HAD to work to survive. Now we do and incomes have not gone up to make the increase in cost of living.
We are a country living so far above our means credit card debt is just normal for most folks. The country is a pressure cooker anymore with many, many who see no bright light at the end of the tunnel. They are hopeless.
Materialism has absolutely destroyed this country.
