The rest of us have a right not to listen if we so chose and for those of us who actually contribute to society we have the right to expect that the government will fulfill its part of the social contract to protect lives and property from criminals. To quote a NYC birdwatcher, "If you do what you want, I'm gonna do what I want, and you're not going to like it." That's where this leads.People feel aggrieved about any number of things. Those feelings are legit whether you share them or not. Same with the shutdown protestors.
The right to express your grievance is sacred and just because I don't feel the same grievance that doesn't mean it isn't real to them.
IOW - I support protest; I support being heard. This doesn't mean I think protestors' demands should be given into but they have a right to be heard.
Isn’t Leo encounters with African-Americans going to be different based on human nature..... I saw an interesting figure that took the police completely out of it..... between 2007 and 2016 260,000 African Americans were treated for non- fatal gunshot wounds compared to 77,000 white Americans..... wouldn’t the way cops deal with African-Americans go hand and hand with what is going on the communities.... I think fixing these communities that are so violent would go a long way towards fixing their interactions with police. If you don't think there is disparity in LEO encounters with African Americans I don't know what to tell you.
I contend that the intensity is magnified by 2 factors: 1) the Aubrey incident and 2) pent up energy from the lock down.
The lockdown protesters were peaceful and as you said had a coherent objective... and it didn't change a damn thing. In fact, that governor doubled down on the stupidity and extended the lockdown. The key difference being the Lockdown protesters had a coherent objective. That's actually a pretty important item you should bring to any protest.
Really? Are you asking that question?
See, now you find yourself asking a question that you may not want to know the answer to. because that might take you down the conspiracy theory rabbit hole... it would be a shame for you to be called a conspiracy nutcase.
