Another PG option for 2013

No that's a juco guy Calban mentioned...Michael Dixon would be better than Barton IMO. He has played in thr SEC (Missouri), and was damn good. He was accused of raped and expelled last year (junior year). No charges where ever brought against him and was eventually cleared, he's gonna try to get a waiver similar to what dez wells received at Maryland.

thats riht.

thats riht. he had some good juco number tho, iirc

Yea. I looked him up and haven't seen anyone recruiting him so he may have another year or something, idk.

Dixon is the most talented guy out there....37% from 3, about 90% from the line and a 2:1 assist I turnover, if I'm Zo I'm doing my homework on him.

This guy right? He had some solid offers coming out of high school. If he was cleared, CCM needs to be camping out on this kids front yard!.

I find it humorous we are the team with the biggest need at pg, and us and Kansas were the only ones NOT to offer out of high school. And I doubt Kansas is losing much sleep.

What I think is ridiculous is not to have a back-up PG on the roster ready to go after two seasons as head coach. Trae Golden was not a real PG to begin with and there is no back-up ready with him gone. So they are going to depend on a true freshman, a possible transfer, and/or a two guard that does the best he can. All when they have the best line-up they have put on the court in years at the other four positions.

Not what I expected a UT head coach to allow to happen at all.

Kansas is actually one of the teams looking at him, they desperately need some experience on their team, kinda funny how that works.

Baylor (surprise surprise) is supposedly involved too.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if a 3* signee is able to play PG in the SEC as a freshman at a high enough level to warrant not starting either Richardson or Hubbs.
That's why I suggest beginning the season with someone else at PG, with Thompson coming off of the bench in a backup PG role until he proves capable of taking over the majority of the PG minutes.

Some 5 stars cant play PG in the SEC much less a 3 star.:)

I think Thompson can handle the job he did shoot 39 percent from the three and dished out 6.4 assists per game. If we can get 25 out of him we can fill in with Lopez and Moore for the rest. The major problem is if he gets injured were in doo-doo.:D

Malik Smith was an option as well, but he said he's shutting down his recruitment about a week ago and deciding this week.

That's why, if reports are true that Martin knew this was a legitimate concern (losing golden), and didn't do his homework on a replacement a couple weeks ago, it's his biggest failure yet as a coach here.

Bigger than Anthony Hickey or Fabyon Harris? :eek:hmy:

Would be as seasoned SR PG, with SEC experience. 37% perimiter shooter, almost 90% from the ft line, and a 2:1 assist to turnover.

1) BIG 12 experience; no SEC action. Never saw the court last year.

2) "Would be as seasoned SR PG..." - Primarily played the #2 at Missouri. (See P. Pressey)

This article gives a little background on his departure from Mizzu:

Michael Dixon no longer with Missouri Tigers - ESPN

1. Correct...big 12 experience is still better than c-USA experience which is what we'd be getting in Barton.

2. he came out of high school as a PG, he played 2 because of pressey, however he's better suited as a 1. Missouri fans have claimed if Dixon was around he may have bumped pressey from the pg spot late in games this past year and may have been the starter late in the year.

Not sure why you're trying to infer with your final sentence.

Unless Hubbs can run point, I think our best bet is for McRae to start at PG and hope Hubbs will make up for getting less pts from McRae. Hopefully, Thompson will be ready to be among the first subs off the bench. Best-case scenario is for Thompson to eventually get the bulk of the PG mins., but that's probably asking too much next year.

Freshman's do it every year (pun intended). Why would Thompson not be able to pull it off? He is talented and a good shooter. I think it is possible. It would be nice to bring in a somewhat seasoned PG to help out though.

with ya. talk about putting a ton of pressure on a freshman pg. In this case, CCM is either a silent assassin, or really stubborn and refused to seriously go after these guys at the last minute.

I understand that Thompson isn't on the level of the past UK PG's but those kids were baptized by fire by being thrown in from day 1. Teague was very raw early in the season but by seasons end he was playing well and led them to a NC. Thompson needs to start from day 1 for no reason other than he'll likely be the man in year 2.

Thompson is much more of a combo guard kind of like Golden. He struggled to handle the ball against pressure in the state tournament and they eventually used someone else to handle the ball against the press. I hope I miss this one a mile but I don't think he is SEC ready for the point. Maybe in time but time is something we don't have. I don't think we have a player on the roster than can do an adequate job at the point. We can diss Golden's performance at the point last year but he played it for a reason. Coach Martin didn't have a better option.

It's possible.
I've never seen him play.
I'm just going by the 3 stars. Sometimes 3* players take the NCAA by storm as freshmen.
But, it's statistically unlikely that a 3* player will be a good starting PG by the first game.
I hope he pulls it off. But, I'm not going to spend the next several months expecting him to be the next Watson or even the next Maze. As far as I'm concerned, we have a gaping hole at PG until either we sign someone else or a player on the current roster shows he can make it work.

I think it's because the AD were going to try to cover it up and some jerk in the AD dept decided to leak information out. No way Martin chucks Landry without knowing that Trae would "transfer". So who takes the fall? Jenny Wright.

"takes the fall"? She was sleeping with student-athletes, she should be gone and she had nobody to blame but herself.

That innocent until proven guilty, sure takes the fun out of it.... well, not really. We can go ahead and figure out "the truth" here on VN.

With Malik Smith going to Minnesota now, I wonder if Dre Mathieu has signed his paperwork yet? Of course Cuonzo and company knew about this with Trae possibly happening a few weeks ago, I guess they don't think Dre could help them.
