A former Catholic high school math teacher's alleged months-long affair with a 17-year-old student has landed her behind bars while possibly pregnant with the boy's baby.
Mary F. Gilles, 28, was fired from Pacelli High School in Austin, Minn. Tuesday after allegedly confessing to the sexual trysts which began in her home back in February, according to the Star Tribune citing the felony charges.
The student, who is nine years her junior, allegedly confessed to having sex with Gilles
With the proliferation of pornography in our society, you cannot be surprised by the rise of sexual assaults, rapes, and teacher-student relations. Freedom of speech is cool and all, but this, unfortunately, is the result and it will only get worse when the Internet generation become full adults.

Age of consent is established because the government feels this is the age a person can make a sound adult decision on who they do or do not have sex with. What does it matter what persons's occupation is & why are repercussions one sided?
31 states have age of consent at 16, while 8 more have it at 17. So not really.I wonder how your response would have differed if the male student had been a female? No longer a wet dream? More like a disgusting pediophile, huh?

Of course not, I'd want them castrated. But I also freely admit in practicing double standards.

Actually, I think it is the mindset of the average teacher. Many I know seem to have low self esteem and not much social life. There lives revolve around the classroom and their students and they rely on those relationships for their self actualization. Consequently, I'm never surprised to see one take one of those relationships beyond the acceptable boundaries.
