Cant believe how Marvel Studios is screwing over Hank Pym. I would expect that from Fox or Sony but not Marvel.

Agreed. Hank Pym should be Ant-Man, and he should be played by an actor even younger than Rudd(who isn't even playing Pym). Pym gives you Ant-Man, Giant-Man, Goliath, and Yellowjacket all rolled into one with one of the greatest scientific minds of the Marvel Universe. Plus he gave the Wasp her powers. They've already screwed him out of the Avengers and being the creator of Ultron, now they're relegating him to a point of being almost meaningless. This movie is beginning to sound totally awful. I thought it could be good, but if their plan is to dismiss one of the MU's most storied characters, I think this movie is pointless.

Hank Pym helped found the Avengers, accidently created one of their greatest villains, and was one of the first characters to fall from grace and eventually find redemption. His story deserves to be better told.

And yeah, I know he's just a comic book character, but he's a comic book character with the potential to be a great movie character, and I hate to see writers screw these things up. Done correctly, this could be one of those movies that catches everyone off guard and blows them away, but it sounds like it's being handled by idiots. Such a waste of a good story.

You tell them Weezer. I'm not an Ant Man fan by any means, but they are screwing him up in epic fashion. I *****ed that he wasn't in TheAvengers, now Pym isn't even Ant Man? Wtf!

I assumed we'd be getting the story of Hank Pym, which naturally begins with him as Ant-Man. But his character progressed so far beyond Ant-Man. Focusing just on the Ant-Man persona itself seems lame when you have a character like Pym with so much history to pull from. He kept re-inventing himself through the years. He went from being a founding member of the Avengers to betraying them to eventually redeeming himself. That wasn't Ant-Man, that was Hank Pym.

I agree 100%. Never was a fan really but he had a great story arch, which if told correctly could have made a great movie or 3. IMO Honestly The Avengers annoyed because of his and Wasps absence, how you don't have the founding members is beyond me. Maybe Hollywood is aware of the infamous slap backlash, and just didn't want him in it because of that.

It sucks because I feel like they're missing out on the chance to tell the story of a hero that suffered mental illness. Yes, he struck his wife(the Wasp), and there is no excuse for a man to hit a woman like that, but he eventually atoned for his sins, and briefly rekindled his romance with the Wasp. Storyline also showed though that he suffered from depression(contemplating suicide) and had a mental breakdown. Marvel created flawed characters for the most part, which is what endeared them to the readers. No one held Stark's alcoholism against him. Hawkeye and Black Widow were both reformed villains. Banner did all kinds of damage as the Hulk. As someone who suffers BPD, it just sucks to see a studio minimalize it when they could draw attention to it.

They could produce several movies out of Pym. Ant-Man will grow tiresome after one. Hell, he could be Ant-Man in the first film and Giant-Man in the second. If I remember correctly, he became Giant-Man because he felt inadequate around the other, more powerful Avengers. Another sign of his mental state. He went from Giant-Man to Goliath(a more powerful sounding name) to eventually becoming Yellowjacket, who despite being more of a throwback to Ant-Man, was his most agressive personality.

The idea of the story they're throwing away makes me sick. They have the potential to tell a truly great and meaningful story, but I get the feeling they're trading it for a special effects filled movie. I'd rather get the story than the effects, but that's jmo.

FTR, I wasn't a big Pym fan when I was younger, but after developing BPD, I gained a new appreciation for the character. He became more relatable to me, which made a big difference.

Preaching to the choir, Weezer. You should right that in a letter to Marvel Studios.

To make it worse it sounds like they are just trying to make this movie a comedy.

FTR Scott Lang is not a bad character but he is nowhere near the layered character of Hank Pym as you described.

Since they have Adam McKay as the writer, I'm guessing this will be a comedy adventure.

So they won't introduce him (Hank Pym) in Avengers 2 as the creator of Ultron? We know this?

Yes. Whedon said there would be no Pym some time ago.

Speculation is that Ultron will have been a failed Tony Stark invention.

If this film makes it in theater by next July I will be shocked!! To my knowledge it hasn't even begun filming and I assumed this one will need a lot of CGI work.

Marvel's ANT-MAN Comic-Con Exclusive Poster Art

Marvel's ANT-MAN Comic-Con Exclusive Poster Art

The whole experience of Comic-Con is pretty amazing. Things that you wouldn’t expect fly out of the woodwork. Like this pre-production concept art by Marvel artist Andy Park that features the suit that Paul Rudd will be wearing in Ant-Man. This is a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive, and I am happy to say that I am pleased with what they have done with the suit.

Michael Douglas is playing Doctor Hank Pym, the scientist responsible for making the suit. Rudd plays Scott Lang, who steals the suit to make himself a better thief. Of course it is going to be one of those “hooker with a heart of gold” scenarios. Without a doubt we will see Rudd change his ways and use his newfound powers for good.

This has been a project that I have been very interested in for a while. Even with all of the recent director controversy, I feel that Marvel will do everything they can to make sure we, as fans, are entertained.

Filming of Ant-Man will not start until August, however, with the release of this concept art; I don’t think that this will be the last we see of this movie this weekend. Marvel has a panel in Hall H on Saturday, and I will be able to give you a more in-depth look at what the studio has in store for us this next year.

Comic-Con: Major Cast Exits On ‘Ant-Man’ Include Patrick Wilson

Comic-Con: Major Cast Exits On ‘Ant-Man’ Include Patrick Wilson

EXCLUSIVE: Don’t expect Patrick Wilson, Matt Gerald and Kevin Weisman to be at tomorrow’s Marvel Studios Hall H presentation at Comic-Con. That trio has dropped out of the ever-morphing Ant-Man movie that has Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas and The Hobbit‘s Evangeline Lilly starring. The movie has been in some state of flux after director Edgar Wright dropped out over differences in creative vision with Marvel’s Kevin Feige, so not surprisingly there is speculation that the trio’s exit is for the same reason that Wright departed and was replaced by Peyton Reed. Marvel insiders adamantly dispute that.

We’re told by insiders that Gerald and Weisman’s characters were omitted in the newly evolved version of the script. Wilson, on the other hand, had a scheduling conflict as production on the movie got delayed, and that is why he won’t be there. Lilly is at Comic-Con to tour a children’s book and Peter Jackson’s final Hobbit installment, The Battle Of The Five Armies. We wouldn’t be surprised to see her at the Marvel panel along with Rudd, Douglas and Reed. Feige always pulls out the stops on Comic-Con, so we expect star-studded updates on Avengers: Age Of Ultron and some vamping on the imminent release Guardians Of The Galaxy. Feige is always good for a few surprises though it seems doubtful he’ll be able to bring in Joaquin Phoenix, who’ll star in Marvel’s Doctor Strange film.

Hope it dies and goes back to the drawing board with Hank Pym as the central character.

Agreed. Hank Pym is too interesting a character to be an old man played by Michael Douglas. My thought, you could actually do Ant-Man about Pym, then, if they greenlight a sequel, have Ant-Man II being about Pym passing the mantle as he changes identities to Giant-Man. I could think of a few interesting twists for a Giant-Man movie, but I'd end it with him giving the Giant-Man mantle to Bill Foster, culminating in Pym becoming Yellowjacket. Slow burn Pym's mental instabilities throughout the movies, explode it with the becoming of Yellowjacket, just as they did in the comics. Then you switch focus to redemption. The entire story could take up and/or influence several movies, all the while adding characters to Marvel's cinematic universe.

So much gold to be mined from Hank Pym, it's thoughtless and wasteful to toss him aside, which is basically what they're doing.

Comic-Con: ‘Ant-Man’ Roles For Evangeline Lilly & Corey Stoll Revealed; Production Starts In August

Comic-Con: ‘Ant-Man’ Roles For Evangeline Lilly & Corey Stoll Revealed; Production Starts In August

Marvel just confirmed that Evangeline Lilly and Corey Stoll have joined the cast of Ant-Man. Lilly, already in town for Warner Bros’ Hobbit panel earlier in the day, will play Hope Pym, daughter of Michael Douglas’ Hank Pym, who is looking to pass the Ant-Man mantle on to Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang in the Marvel mythology. Also officially joining the pic is Corey Stoll, who will play Darren Cross, who obtains Pym particles and dons the villainous mantle of Yellowjacket.

Lily said she hasn’t even seen a script. ”I’ve been evading the press over the last two days at Comic-Con about who I’ll be playing,” she said.

The official castings come a day after our Mike Fleming Jr reported that Patrick Wilson, Matt Gerald and Kevin Weisman have fallen out of the pic, which has been in some state of flux after director Edgar Wright dropped out. Insiders say Gerald and Weisman’s characters were omitted in the newly evolved version of the script. Wilson, on the other hand, had a scheduling conflict.

Also during the panel, Marvel boss Kevin Feige mentioned that production kicks off August 18 in Atlanta — though he showed a clip of Rudd in the Ant-Man suit jumping on a flying insect that Hank Pym, via voice-over, is telling him to control. ”Paul is in great shape that the Ant-Man body suit, we had to soften up,” said Reed. “We’re actually using CGI to remove muscles.”

“This is a story of a heist and my partner played by Corey Stoll is taking the company in a different direction,” Douglas said. Added Stoll: ”Some judgmental people says it’s an evil direction.”

How does Marvel not realize their success is due to mainly sticking to the core of their characters with only a few tweaks here and there(barring Fury)? They are totally fawking up Hank Pym/Ant-Man.

Ant Man was one of my favorite comic book characters. They need to make a movie about Giant Man or Yellowjacket.
