Antonio Barton officially on campus

I don't disagree on the unrest prediction, but if CCM doesn't demand they play "inside out" then he's not going to get the most out of the lineup.

Most every time down the floor that's not a fast break, Maymon and/or Stokes should have a touch before anyone takes a shot. I don't know of a roster that can match UT's muscle on the blocks.

Depends on the height, weight, and athleticism of the defenders.

The Maymon/Stokes tandem dominated Drummond/Oriakhi Jarnell's freshman year...and there was no lack of height, weight or athleticism with that UCONN duo.

But several others did. Kentucky dominated them pretty good. Neither of them are Kenny SkyWalker. just saying

Jeronne averaged 14 & 7 against Kentucky that year, so I wouldn't exactly call that being "dominated". Jarnell was playing his very first game against them, and playing as a high school senior, alot has changed since then.

I do agree that 1 on 1 Stokes struggles a bit with superior length, but my point is that with having Maymon out there that will help. When you're going against a 7 footer like Stokes was, plus have a 6'9" forward coming over to double you, most guys would struggle. Stokes will actually get to go 1 on 1 much more this season and I think he will have much more success in dohng so.

I think so too. All I was saying is they don't have great leaping ability.

Your describing the NBA every night.

Barton might be the polar opposite of Golden. He loves to run the break, he’s a career 41 percent 3-point shooter—that’s in Chris Lofton territory, Tennessee fans—and he’ll gladly climb into an opposing point guard’s jersey and take him out of the picture.

Asked to describe his game, Barton offered a one-word reply. “Aggression,” he said. Then he expounded a bit. “That’s on the defensive end and the offensive end. I play with aggression.”

BartonÂ’s new teammates have noticed. The reports coming out of pick-up games have been glowing.

“The kids have been raving about him,” Tennessee assistant coach Kent Williams said. “They talk about how explosive he is, how much he attacks in transition. That wasn’t really Trae’s style. He was more of a power point guard because he was a pretty big kid at 205 pounds or whatever. Antonio likes to get out in transition, and so do we.

“Antonio is a tough kid, and he's got a lot of big-game experience,” Martin said. “He can knock down shots, he loves to defend, and he's going to make plays for his teammates. His style of play is in line with the identity I want for our program. He's a tougher breed. Golden wasn’t a pesky on-ball defender, and last season, his 3-point stroke all but abandoned him. Worse, he often put the brakes on Tennessee’s transition game, even though Martin wanted the Vols to push more often so they could collect easier baskets and prevent the prolong scoring slumps they sometimes dropped in to last season."

Telling.

Yeah surprised that Martin would come out and say that.

I need to clarify because that whole paragraph wasn't a Martin quote...

Hence the concern expressed by many that his current skill set won't translate over to the NBA. I'm starting to think we'll see another season of Stokes at TBA past this one.

I seriously doubt it. He wasn't going to get drafted this year and nearly went pro. I think he's already been here longer than he planned. I see him going pro regardless of draft stock unless he gets injured this season.

Not a chance that Stokes comes back. This is his, McRae, Maymon, and Barton's last year to do something special.

Ha, I read that wrong the first time too. Then I figured CCM probably isn't a "refer to himself in third person" kind of guy.

Only mildly related, but one of my five-year old daughters refers to herself in the third person all the time. It's hilarious. "Sydney wants a drink, Sydney's tired, Sydney has to go potty," etc. Lol.

I wish him the best, but he doesn't appear to have grown any taller since arriving. Unless he's developed a great midrange game, then his worth in the NBA should not have changed from last year? I wish him the best, but get that degree unless you are sure the NBA has a roster spot waiting on you. Its a tough world out there for ex-athletes who didn't make the big league and didn't finish their education.

Feel like we heard the same about Hopson, he seems to be doing ok.
