Antonio Barton, following the demolition of Mizzou: "Coach Martin has had the right blueprint the entire time. It's just that now we're doing what we're coached to do."

And there we have it, from inside the program. It's been execution, not coaching, all along.

Good on you, Antonio, for stepping up (in the name of the team) and taking responsibility, and good for all the players choosing to go out and correct the earlier mistakes. This means the last three games are not temporary, but are now the new normal. Good on you, AB.

I agree to an extent... Players who don't listen to the coach's execution is on the coaches. IMO. If players aren't listening, doesn't that mean the coaching is ineffective?

When there are problems, it's on everyone, including the coach. I don't want Martin gone, but I do believe that there was more he could do to make his team perform. Similarly, I believe the team could have done more to perform well. What matters is that they're playing well now.

Don't care what anyone says, CCM is a dolt trying to be a SEC BB coach...he just don't got the stuff.....;)

My issue is in 3 years under CCM it's usually been Feb. before the team starts executing. Therefore, every year we sit and watch selection Sunday as a bubble team and so far we are 0 for 2. Hopefully this team goes to Atlanta and brings home a championship for the first time since 1979. Otherwise, there are no guarantees about being selected this year.

OK - it has been a good run. Zo is letting them play on offense and for some reason they have decided to play defense for 40 minutes instead of 20. Whatever works, right?

But let's get real on who they have played. Mizzou was the most accomplished team out of the 4. Mizzou won a grand total of 2 SEC games on the road, including losing their last 5 SEC road games in a row. Not dance worthy. We are very, very fortunate that the game is down nationwide and may limp into the tourney by finishing as the third best team in the SEC. If the team lights up UK or UF in the SEC tourney then we all will know that they finally turned the corner as Barton suggests.

Finally, Zo has been more animated and passionate in the last couple of weeks than he has been all season and probably for all three seasons combined. What took him so long? We will know he has turned the corner as a coach when he gets teed up for the first time in his career standing up for his players.

So the Head Coach is telling them what to do all season and the team decided this week was finally time to execute it?
So Antonio is saying this team doesn't respect Zo's coaching and were better off doing their own thing all season?
Is that what he is implying?
Has he signed the bring Bruce back petition?

I kid....but seriously :dunno:

If you can't tell the difference between a pg running the offense and a pg giving it up immediately over the timeline as has been the issue in bad offensive games this year, watch something else.
Barton has had more picks sent his way for him to make a play in the last 3 games than in the previous 28 combined. He was being a piece instead of part of the plan.

i see it....now pushing the ball upcourt before the d gets set......now the question is did they just now realize what to do or did cuonzo change his approach?

probably a little of both. At this point you have to assume a 23 yr old sr and his coach sat down and hashed things out. They aren't going to tell us. But it's obvious Barton's role has changed, which has pulled him more into gameplans and he has played better. He's not a selfish kid and was coming in trying to fit in.
You guys all know the bad games where we walk it up, struggle to score 60 and have multiple turnovers near midcourt (like DT's today). That passivity bleeds over to the defensive end too. When we have an attack mentality offensively, our D responds. I think the staff and team is finally together on that, for multiple reasons.

I like that he has the ball and has picks coming for him now and is dribbling down looking for the early feed to the post. That's causing teams major problems and Stokes goes off or we hit a rhythm 3, all without running a motion type offense for 25 seconds that gets us out of our game.

“@JordanCornish5_: I'm glad the announcer just said that! It's crazy to say COACH MARTIN HAS PRESSURE ON HIM”

I thought the comment was weird listening to it. When UT is 7-7 in the SEC and 16-11 overall he should have a ton of pressure. The NCAA tourney is the first goal, not making it multiple years in a row should be unacceptable for any school.

Sadly Martin now has finished top 4 in the SEC 3 years in a row

Why is it sad that we've finished top 4 3 years in a row?

The two mistakes by Thompson really concern me, especially the ten second call. Even if DT still has the old Martin mentality in him about slowing it down, he is a coach's son. The lack of awareness and non chalant play is concerning.

He's hitting that freshman wall and you can tell. I hope he snaps out of it soon.

Jimmy D also said something of interest yesterday. Barton while at Memphis played behind Joe Jackson. When his game was off it was never magnified because he came off the bench. It's just taken a little more time for him to get into his rhythm with CCM's motion offense. The light bulb came on at the right time. This team is very dangerous, very physical and seem to have a swag finally.

Yes, that was and has been an observation from end as well. Granted he is Freshman, but he has to step it up. Sure the coaching staff is already working with him on this issue. He's got a lot to work on over the Summer.

So you mean to tell me that for the third straight year in a row that we've been playing poorly because of execution?

Yeah right, I find it hard to believe that these players have been playing that bad for so long.

Lets face it, Zo isn't a very good coach, a good coach wouldn't allow his team to be so up and down. So no I don't think this is on the players, it's on the coach for not teaching the system right.
