Any chance we could flip Edwards from Kentucky?

What I want to know is, how does Cal have no buyout? That is shocking considering UK is a blue blood.

I think once Cal leaves, they are going to struggle
I think the opposite. You know UK will always get the talent. Get the right guy in there who can actually coach and reach those types of players and UK will be right back on top. The mistake they made was in going for the shiny object vs getting a coach with actual ability and a strong foundation. Put a guy like Oats in that job and they'll explode back to the top. Problem they'll face is who will want to jump into that fire cauldren of a job with all the expecations and pressures that comes with it not to mention the money they'll have to pay to actually make such a change.

Totally agree. And Oats would probably be a good fit there. But if I'm UK and I fire Cal, the first call I'm making is to Billy Donovan.

I see a lot of people floating Jay Wright’s name out there as someone who should be a top target, and I just keep thinking “What are these people smoking?” Wright left Villanova because he hated the direction college sports was headed with the transfer portal and NIL. He was paid handsomely at Villanova, too. Why would he come out of retirement to go to that pressure cooker in Lexington?

Aaron Torres had a podcast on the Calipari situation yesterday.

He said that if Calipari takes the Texas job his first two possible replacements would be Jay Wright or Brad Stevens.

He did not mention Pearl. He also mentioned Musselman who has a 2 million dollar buyout and Oats who has an 8 million dollar buyout.

He expects Calipari to be the coach at Kentucky in 2024.

I could be wrong, but I would be stunned if Jay Wright came out of retirement for any job other than something in the NBA. I don’t think he wants to deal with the 365 day grind that is college basketball recruiting and transfer portal nonsense anymore.

I would equally be stunned if Brad Stevens gave up his extremely comfy job with the Celtics. Kentucky is a great job, obviously. But I don’t think they are going to be able to handpick whoever they want for their next coach like they used to be able to do.

Cal has to be at a BB...if he doesn't have top shelf talent he will struggle mightily given his inability to scheme and develop players plus the level playing field on paying players now as @Thunder Good-Oil rightly pointed out.
He will get top talent to any school. Memphis was always loaded so will have no problems doing it at Texas either.

I agree...shouldn't have said BB but rather a top tier school. Talent has never been the issue at UoM but, too often, it is character flaws.

Considering why Texas doesn’t have a coach I seriously doubt they’d give Pearl a look lol

With 10 wins against Kentucky, Barnes is second behind Mears in UT coaches with career wins against the Wildcats.

Mears was 15-15 in his career against Kentucky,
