Anyone else surprised to see Huck at the top of this list? Personally, I don't have any major issues with Huckabee and think he or Gingrich would do an excellent job in head to head debates with Obama... actually, I think they would show him to be the teleprompter reading intellectual that he is. OTOH, by comparison Palin would make Obama look like a combination of Reagan and Einstein in head to heads. I think Sarah does a fabulous job exciting the troops, but she is the best guarantee Dems have of owning the white house for 4 more years. I'm neutral on Romney, as I think he presents himself okay... but imo he would need to pull a large block of the indy's and moderate dems to get elected.

CNN Poll: Obama Trails Mitt And Huck, Leads Gingrich And Palin | TPMDC

A newly-released CNN poll, conducted a few days before this past midterm election, shows President Obama in for a competitive race in 2012, with him trailing two potential Republican candidates and leading two others among registered voters.

The numbers:

• Mike Huckabee leads Obama by 52%-44%. In the previous CNN poll from April, Obama led Huckabee by 54%-45%.

• Mitt Romney leads Obama by 50%-45%. In the previous CNN poll from April, Obama led Romney by 53%-45%.

• Obama edges out Newt Gingrich by 49%-47%. In the previous CNN poll from April, Obama led Gingrich by 55%-43%.

• Obama leads Sarah Palin by 52%-44%. In the previous CNN poll from April, Obama led Palin by 55%-42%.

The survey of registered voters has a ±3% margin of error.

As for the Republican nomination, nationwide GOP voters at this early juncture give Huckabee 21%, Romney 20%, Palin 14%, Gingrich 12%, Ron Paul 7%, plus 3% each for Haley Barbour, Mike Pence and Tim Pawlenty, and 2% for Rick Santorum. This question has a ±4.5% margin of error.

i just which palin, and other repubs, would stop all the catch phrases i.e. "cap and tax" and other garbage. This lowest common denominator crap just makes the rest of the party look dumb.

being even with a controversial guy like Gingrich ain't good for Barry
Agree. I would imagine that if things don't improve much there's a chance that Obama may not even be the Dem's choice.

Prolly going to be a lot more catch phrases used as well. I watched the interview with Palin and Geraldine Ferraro the other day, and I swear Palin stated the same sentence 5 different times and just interchanged a word or two to make it seem different. She was not able to complete a well thought out response to any question.

I would vote for Bill Belichick at this point
Gotta go with Tony Dungy.

i hate the way she says it too. as though she thinks it's oh so witty. i'm hoping we get an out of left field candidate for 2012. huckabee/plain/romney can't win IMO.

I wish Palin would go away.

The ones to watch for is Marco Rubio and Allen West

I would be very interested in seeing this guy on the VP ticket with Newt or someone else. My guess is Obama and the Dems will focus heavily on the younger generation and latino demographics to increase their voter turnout. Rubio would be a great counter for the Republican ticket.

Not sure how much of the hispanic vote rubio could pull seeing as how he's cuban and most of the hispanics in this country are from mexico. he does seem to be a dynamic guy though. I don't know much about his policies.

I don't want another "learn on the job" candidate. Give me someone that has run something for a while and understands how to work within a political environment.

Don't know his full history, but another potential 2nd could be John Boehner. With a history as described below, he clearly has the ability to relate to the general public and Ohio is a big swing state. He and Romney might be interesting... two former business executives who should know a little something about balancing a budget.

He grew up in modest circumstances, having shared one bathroom with his dozen siblings in a two-bedroom house in Cincinnati. His parents slept on a pull-out couch. He started working at his family's bar at age 8.

Isn't Cap and Tax exactly what it is? The point is to make fossil fuel energy more expensive by taxing it which makes green energy a more viable option. No?

I live in the desert and would love to be able to buy cheap solar cells to put on my house. The current ones are way too expensive to be an option. My house is only about 1800 sq ft and my electric bill in the summer is about $400. I would do whatever makes financial sense to bring that bill down but I'm not going to choose to have it go up because I feel environmentally guilty.

I guess I'm one of those ignorant/dumb/lowest common denominator Republicans. Guilty as charged. :elephant:

Christie/Rubio 2012

oh yeah baby!!! That's what I'm talking about. I think we should go kidnap them and force them to run.

(The kidnapping suggestion is a joke) ... but really though we should do it. :)

it can still be accurate and be stupid. the two are not mutually exclusive. the message gets lost when all you do is throw out catch phrases.

I'm staying wide open until 2012. My biggest worry is the GOP having 27 people run and we end up with a weak candidate in the general election. I like Palin, Newt, etc. in certain roles but I do not view any of them as Presidential material.
