Anyone change their mind and is now going to Orlando?

I think you're right, anyone thinking this is going to be the 2nd coming of Peyton Manning is probably in for a big surprise. Much more added pressure put on the young man and I hope he does perform well but my expectations are that he performs well & we beat Iowa. I'm more concerned about our Oline keeping Nico standing up & giving him the time to execute. That said I also hope we have receivers that can catch the ball. I certainly wouldn't want Iowa's big guys planting Nico in the turf and getting him hurt. I've said it before, don't want to see us go 3 run plays into the teeth of the line unless we can show we can open up the holes consistently. I question whether we can do that. Hope I'm wrong. Best of Luck to Nico & the VOLS, and just do it! GO VOLS!!!!

I hope not, Manning wasn’t very good as a freshman.

Nico has been practicing for just over a year. He should have taken more snaps, but he's more prepared than Manning or Clausen when they took the reigns.

It's a little odd to me that someone would base their travel off getting to see a true freshman QB play the Iowa defense in person. I really hope it all works out, but I have a feeling it's going to be a tractor pull.
My fear also. I do not think we lose but that's a rough first start. As far as I can tell Iowa has little to no relevant opt-outs/portal entries thus far. This means we face their best defense.
Again, don't think we come anywhere close to losing. The game will be over before halftime. But it's gonna be rough for Nico. Maybe it's a good thing?

Bandwagon Fans.
Yep and in the last few years that is where I am going. The game has lost it as far as I am concerned. If the players are not loyal to the program then why should the fans be? We just need to detach the programs from the schools and have a national farm league. I would rather see dollars going to better society through education now than making millionaire athletes. I can see no pride in a national championship when in essence it only goes to the program with the highest bidding fan base.

What if he has not taken more snaps because he has not shown the ability? I do not think Heupel is not smart enough to know when a QB can get you beat.

I saw Manning’s first game. Much different than his career. But you saw the potential. Think it will be the same.

Nico from a potential point could be the best we have had in the history of our university number 1 or 2 overall player on 3 of the 4 major recruiting sites puts expectations so his talent is undeniable… Cali has been very good to us in the past and he just has uncoachable gifts if he has that ice cool feel like Casey had with his skill set and heup coaching we are in for a special era… idc how good Iowa’s defense is I expect Nico to make plays and he will have some bad plays as a true freshman but his natural skill set will pop and I think he has good first start he has had a full year to sit and learn and he has ample prep time with 15 practices for Iowa… they are physical and discipline but our speed is something they haven’t seen… no matter the performance though good or bad we shouldn’t over react as a fanbase… I believe he will be very good in this system going forward with the weapons he will have as well.

You joined in 2012 and have very few posts. You don't have a high enough post count to be a member of the True Fan Police.
Well I appreciate you looking at my profile. I was wondering what the “G” meant in your name but now I know. 😁 I have been a season ticket holder since 1997 so I’m pretty sure that qualifies me as a true fan. And if you’re basing someone’s number of post as being a true fan, then you have some serious issues. Then again, you seem like the guy type that stays on Instagram and TikTok all the time wondering how many likes they’re going to get. 🤣

We have a freshman QB, both starting RB's are out, and lost our entire secondary, against a good defense. We've got them right where we want them 👀🤣
Iowas defense is good but their offense is equally bad. They are only about 12 points from being 6-6 on the year.

I think attendance is already suffering for the bowl games. With all the opt outs and transfers, unless you are in the playoffs, the games really don't matter. The players know that, the coaches know that, the fans know that. I hate that bowl games have fallen to this level, but for example, if you were deciding whether or not you are going to watch an MLB game in person and they announced that the star outfielders, shortstop, first baseman, DH, starting pitcher, and closer were all not playing, would you still go, or even watch?

I don’t disagree and would add that bowl games were already watered down, wayyy too many of them. I saw Minnesota was in a bowl game with a 5-7 record, hard for anymore to get excited about that IMO.

Last year there was no noticeable drop. The early bowl games never draw more than 30k and all the major bowls outside the NY6 were sellouts or close to it. That won’t change in the short term.

Well, I was in the stadium during Manning's freshman year. He certainly didn't look like a generational QB at that point in time. I know Nico has been on campus for a year, but he's still very raw and inexperienced. Iowa will make his head spin a bit.

Aw come on....practice reps are just as good as live action. No more excuses.

I really, really want you to be right and speed and tempo cause them problems. If Nico can get the ball out and keep the offense on the field, we'll win.

From what i have seen of their secondary....they dont have anyone that can cover Squirrel. Hell...Bama doesnt either 1 on 1. Squirrel had 8 catches on 8 targets in the 1st half in Tuscaloosa before they started rolling a safety over the top to him on every snap. We need somebody to step up and draw some attention so they cannot shade to Squirrel every play. If they have to cover him 1 on 1 Nico to Squirrel will put a couple TDs on the board.

We have seen lots of Nimrod and a little Webb too....what the Hell happened to Leacock? He is the biggest and highest rated out of those 3 correct? Did he get hurt maybe?

That whole Iowa defense is a mystery to me. Obviously they’re really good, but I’m not sure what it says that they have to hang their hat on shutting down the Big 10 West.

In Manning's freshman year, the Vols closed out the season scoring 31, 24, 52, & 65 and then scored 45 pts against 17th ranked Va Tech in the Gator Bowl. Manning struggled in a couple of games early but he had a very good freshman year and got better every week.

He got forced onto the field way too early, but got better as the year went. He definitely needed to mature physically when he got to college. He looked obviously more polished his Sophomore year, but the crazy thing is that if you look at his stats, his QBR and YPA were pretty close to the same every single year.
