Anyone else mad Dooley burned Worley's redshirt?

I'd say no. The point is, especially since scholarship limits dropped to 85, there aren't nearly as many redshirts and there are hardly any skill guys using them unless the position is majorly loaded. 4 and 5 star guys don't want to sign and then sit. And if they're on the roster and they can contribute, no coach is going to sit them for the sake of a season 4 years down the road that they may not even be around for.

I can't think of a WR since Carl Pickens, a RB since Travis Stephens or a QB since Jerry Colquitt that redshirted on purpose.

Riley Ferguson redshirted just last season. Given he didn't end up staying, but for purposes of this discussion he did redshirt.

Yeah but .... He redshirted because he was hurt and had no choice. If not for th leg injury, he surely would've seen some snaps late in the year when we only had 1 QB healthy.

Same thing happened with Jonathan Crompton. Although, as well as Erik Ainge played, he might have redshirted anyway.

Imagine if Dooley never burned Bray's redshirt and Bray didn't take money and was still here for his Sr. year. Can you imagine Bray's arm with these receivers?

I'm still waiting for somebody to name a skill position player that was a meaningful contributor that has been redshirted by choice since Travis Stephens.

There was no choice but to let Worley play. Bray was hurt and Simms was awful.

Croom? He could end up being a meaningful contributor.

I think Worley is a capable QB but i don't see him as an elite QB. To be a senior and still not be able to hit some of the pass routes accurately...particularly the long ball is disturbing. His pocket presence still isn't that great either and has a problem knowing when to step up to get out of pressure. I think the kid is a decent QB, certainly the best we have now, but he's not going to win you championships even if his line was the best in the SEC.

It's a shame we don't have a quarterback on the roster, an heir apparent, who could take some snaps this year in mop up duty and learn the offense.

I hope they prove me wrong, but I'm not sure either Dobbs or Peterman is that guy. It seemed like Ferguson was going to be the one.

Somebody remind me, is Dormady supposed to be an EE?

What's wrong with Dobbs? I don't keep up with practice reports etc....but I had pretty high hopes for him.

What is funny that now VN use fools as the excuse for everything but when he was our coach VN was on a witch hunt if u called his coaching and recruiting out.....

True statements. I supported the man at the time because he was the head football coach at Tennessee. Remember how many coaches turned down the job before he accepted it. I supported him after the 2010 LSU and UNC games, and continued that support through the blowouts and close losses. I almost lost confidence after the UK disaster, but found it easier to blame Bray and Rogers instead. After the end of regulation against Mizzou in 2012, however, I couldn't support him anymore. And I wasn't unhappy when he got the gate after the Vandy game.

After he was canned, the stories that came out about his arrogance and the lack of a relationship with state high school coaches helped explain why he didn't find success with the Vols. Things like that helped fan the flames of bitterness toward him by VN. I know it has with me.

I'm willing to let it go. Butch and his staff are leading the team and the future looks bright. DD was simply the wrong guy at the wrong time at the wrong place.

Dobbs not progressing worries me a bit.

Full season on campus and in the system and he looks as bad as when he showed up based on practice reports and the depth chart.

I am not mad at Dooley or Kiffin, I am just glad they are gone. They did what any other incompetent coaches would do-- they took the money. Deep down, if you really took off the orange glasses, you had to know the hires were horrible. I thought so on both occasions. Oh some may have been a bit excited about Lane and the prospects of becoming "USC Knoxville" but as soon as he opened his mouth you knew he was just an idiot. I blame the people who hired Mike Hamilton. He was truly awful.

Let's look at Mike's tenure:

-Fired Fulmer with no real plan
-Hired Lane
-Hired Dooley
-Hired Pearl, got show cause
-Hired baseball coach from Western Carolina??
-Horrible track team
-Had a swimming coach sexting teen boys
-Gave Pat Summitt Alzheimer's

Hammy was a terrible leader

I'm surprised that Dobbs apparently has not played well. It's not like our pass game is all that demanding. I like Worley's leadership a lot--he's the anti-Bray in that respect. Unfortunately, he's also the anti-Bray when it comes to arm strength. He has an unusual, stiff throwing motion, which I think is the reason why he struggles on deeper passes. He doesn't have the arm to throw deep. That doesn't bother me too much as deep passes are low percentage. Dobbs and Peterman both are as talented as Worley--probably more so. But here's the thing: At least one of them needs to get some good reps this year so that next year we're not completely starting over again at the QB position.
