Anyone have an idea where Pruitt learned this payoff scheme from?

He sure didn't learn it at Bama. If he had, he wouldn't have sucked at it.
Who knows what can actually be trusted from a guy like Pruitt but a friend of mine golfed with him a few years ago. This friend told me that Pruitt said Saban didn’t pay players as incoming recruits but that he would pay players to stay if they were on the fence about the NFL and Bama needed them back. On the other hand, he said Kirby cheated in every way imaginable. I do trust my friend but don’t Pruitt so I’m guessing he was covering for Saban but that’s what he said.

Inquiring minds want to know 🤷🏻

Love to know if this one question was ever asked by the infractions folks. My guess is it wasn’t touched with a 10 foot pole.

payments to recruits / players has been going on for a hundred years. it is a constant in college athletics. Doesn't take long for "new" coaches to learn. LOL

If the NCAA ever had a staff as big as the FBI they could have addressed on a global level. But that has not been the case for those hundred years and the only way they end up investigating is when something gets reported to them. Others get ignored. That will never change.

Once NCAA is completely scraped, things will be much worse.

If anyone thinks bama and Georgia haven't led the way in paying for players, they are sadly naive. They are the best teams because they have the best players and they have "laundered" their trails better than any other programs. Only TN could hire a guy as dumb as a rock to implement that system in Knoxville.

Also, their media walks in lockstep with them especially the Alabama media. The AJC had lately gone off cue with negative institutional control blather and their paying dearly with UGA ppl backlash .

Which makes you think that UGA bid higher, right?

Of course, these certain players have their hands out all over because booster are handing it out like candy to 5*s. So they pick 5 teams and gather cash from each team and whoever pays the most is the best recruiter and it just felt like Home uhhh with benefits.

From the KNS article this morning. While Defensive Coordinator at Alabama in 2016 to 2017, Pruitt made 40 four and five figure cash withdrawals from his bank account. Sounds like the same scheme he and the coaches were running at UT. Part of Pruitt’s defense to the NCAA was that it wasn’t unusual to carry large amounts of cash and we now know why. Same reason for all those withdrawals at Alabama.

If you really want to know who's MO Pruitt's actions seem to mimic from outlandish behavior to a total disregard and respect for rule's he has sworn to follow, look no further than his friend and first mentor, Rush Probst. Say whatever you want about Saban, Fulmer, UGA or the cesspool that has always been college football recruiting. Guys like Saban and Fulmer knew/know how the game was played, how to use legal means to push the limits and how to stay at least an arms length away from any action that would appear over the line.

Pruitt was the Earnest T. Bass of the college football world. Instead of mimicking Saban or Fulmer, he rode around the college football neighborhoods yelling at the top of his lungs and throwing rocks thru windows. It's the same type of personality that got Hugh Freeze popped.

Bullsheeeet Alert:

Pruitt told investigators he was thinking about the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor when he helped a player's mother with some bills. Pruitt said the woman had come to him pleading for help because of financial hardships during the coronavirus pandemic.

"Then you throw in George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, okay, so you sit there as a white man and you see all of this going on and you can see these kids suffering," Pruitt told investigators, via Knox News.

I know for a FACT that it went on during Bryant's time. In the 60's, it was promised to me by a Bama rep. only back then it was envelopes of CASH slipped under your door in the players dorm night before the game.

Yup and his feelings towards other teams NIL's shows his hand, if you pay attention. The only way this would ever get out is if he pisses off the wrong reporter years from now
^^^^ It got out with jimbo fisher last year when nickie got pissed at texas a and m and fisher outed saban and how he operates as a cheater.

That was one of my questions, where in the Tide did he learn how to do this stuff? The other question is this, where was Fulmer?
It was a perfect storm. There is an ambitious young coach who sees it go on, but has no idea how to keep it hidden. He thinks he is going to break the mold and make some noise in the recruiting world and we all know how that ended. On top of that, you have Fulmer who has been out of the game for 15 years and is probably as tech savy as Syrian refugee....and is relying on Pruitts knowledge of how things are now down. The difference between Pruitt and Smart is Smart has an excellent support system and is probably just smarter about the whole system.

Oh he definitely learned it at Bama. The problem is he didn't win a Natty in his first 2 years to continue getting away with it. If anything he sucked at being a HC. Had he been a better HC this might not have come out because the program would have helped cover it up. You can't cheat and still suck.

No he didn’t learn it at Bama. When it comes to cheating Saban is a savant. He would never tell Pruitt to put cash in Chick Fil A bags.

Every team did it. The question is, did other teams do it as blatantly obvious as Pruitt did?

Pulling money straight out the ATM? He wasn't even trying to hide it.
It wasn't just paying money to players in front of god and everyone, it was contacting players and having visits during no contact period. Even during the Covid mess. It's like everyday they read the rule book searching for a new rule to break.
