I could only assume doing well?

Who was it, id read about the other day. Ainge or JC with tendinitis?

It was JC but it's nothing to worry about being this early. Clausen had the same problem back in 2000. He was fine in about 2 weeks, but his injury came right before the season opener. He could have played in the Florida game but Suggs played really well that day.

Actually talking about the players at this point gets me to thinking about how close the season really is...it won't be long and I can't wait.

I am going to go to more games this year and I think we are all really in for a great year!

Go Vols!

JC seems OK. I heard that he had been cut off from throwing until fall practice, though, so he's been resting awhile.

how long has JC been studying the tennessee playbook? Didn't he start studying it while in high school?

Crompton WILL have a chance to compete for starting snaps this fall. He WILL have first team reps, and will compete alongside of Erik and Rick. If he does not win the first or second team job, the early plan is a redshirt, but I would not be surprised to see him playing when Sept 3rd rolls around.

IMO, unless Clausen or Ainge gets injured, I see no reason to put him in. If he is head and shoulders better than Ainge and Clausen, play him, if not redshirt him and make Hardegree 3rd string or something.

I agree totallly Milo. I think if we end up having to play him in the opener against UAB, we're in deep trouble.

I thought I was clear in that I felt that he was/is good enough to play ahead of Ainge/Clausen.

I think Phil could stick with the two-QB system, and it would not shock me to see Clausen start the UAB game, (He loves starting the seniors early on, see Joey Matthews) and then I think that Crompton can beat out Ainge for the other spot. Has nothing to do with anything except I think that Jon has that type of talent and drive, and grasp of Tennessee's playbook.

He wasn't starting seniors last year early on now was he? Ainge should get the starting job and it will be his to lose.

Yeah, I got that and I really hope he's as good as you seem to think he is. I've never seen anything except stats and recruiting video of Crompton, so I personally have no basis to really say whether he can or can't win the job. I'm just going off the conventional wisdom that says that no matter what a kid did in high school, you are in trouble if you are playing freshmen at QB. Sometimes, I don't think people realize just how outrageous it was last year that we played freshmen all year and won 10 games.

What about Ainge? You'd rather piss away his scholarship to start a true freshman when it's unnecesary at best?

And it was only because we had the co-starters with contrasting styles. It's not that they outplayed defenses, it's that other teams didn't know how to prepare.

If we had went with either one of them full-time, we would be looking at maybe 7 wins at best last season.

I'd rather play the BEST player available. If that player is a freshman, and he is the better player for the next three seasons, and you want to call it "pissing away" a scholorship, than you are damn right I would start a true freshman over a True Sophomore. By the way, I wonder if this was the stance you took last season when Clausen and Leak were pushed to Number 2 and 3?

Surely you don't think that PHil picked the freshmen because they "might be harder" to prepare for, and that they didn't EARN it with thier play. Come on now.

I don't really agree with that. Yes they had contrasting styles, but after the first couple of games Ainge was the man. I don't really think there were any games that we wouldn't have won if Ainge had started the whole year. The only game Schaeffer really impacted was SC, but even then Ainge was the guy making the big throws in the 3rd quarter.
