Anyone here a ENT?

Makes sense, happens to me when I sit in a quiet room only it does so with both ears. The quiet seems to amplify it. In the meantime you could use a sound machine to break the silence if it's keeping you from sleeping. You can also use your laptop or other mobile device.

Ive had tinnitus (ringing ear) in my right ear since Sunday. No hearing loss, no dizziness, and I cleaned my ears out. Its not a super loud ring it only bothers me at night. Sound throughout the day blocks it out. I dont listen to my music loud, I used but I figured if that was the cause id have hearing loss. Can anyone help? Thank you!
Like volger, I'm 53 and have suffered this for many years. I blame it on loud music when I was younger, being in close proximity of jet engines for 26 years, and the over indulgence of alcohol when I was younger. Don't drink except on a rare occasion, don't listen to loud music, and have been away from jets for 10 years now.
It has gotten a lot better over the past few years, but stil have occasional painful bouts with it. Sometimes, it feels as if my eardrum is being pierced.

I do drink and have more lately than usual. But not a extreme amount I know people who drink way more than I do who dont have this. Im so confused on what triggered this.

Then stop farting around and go see a doctor. Like I said, there is a good chance it can be fixed.

For me, I didn't have it while I was overly indulging, but later on when I cut back a bit, my drinking would trigger. Then when I found out that alcohol was a trigger, I pretty much cut out alcohol.

What triggers it now, I'm guessing, is all the white noise during the day.

THIS. I have noticed the quieter it is, the more my ears ring. I sleep with a TV on so I do not have to put up with it at night.

I downloaded a app onto my phone that plays sounds. My ring only bothers me at night. it isnt loud at all. Have you had any hearing loss since your ring began?

Depends on who you ask. My wife says, Yes! All kidding aside, the machine says no, however, my hearing has diminished. If there is background noise of any kind, I tilt my head and cup my ear to hear better.

I have had this lovely malady since September of last year. I have done a lot of research. Best hope is it is from a virus and will clear up in 4-8 weeks. Otherwise its probably permanent. I got mine from using gas powered lawn edgers. I can point to the exact time it started. Then got worse the next time I used the tool two weeks later (stupid me - didn't learn to put on hearing protection). In the case it is permanant it takes time to habituate to it (ignore it). Takes many months, even years to train yourself to ignore it. I still have good and bad days. Background noise that matches the frequency of your ringing is your friend. I play a sprinkler on my i-phone nearly all day and the entire time I am sleeping and that helps a ton. Buy and read the book "Tinnitus, Turning the volume down" by Kevin Hogan. Other than that, don't talk about it and don't focus on it. Just try to engulf yourself in mind absorbing activities.

By the way I happen to be somewhat lucky in that I am in the minority that I have it without any hearing loss. I tested out perfect after it started.

I just caught that you are only 21. Us old male dudes tend to get the years of exposure to noise version. Here's hoping yours is just a temporary condition. Good luck with your doctor's visit.

All that sprinkler playing will slow down your habituating. I don't remember how long it took, but I eventually habituated to mine. Now I either hear it and don't care or don't notice it at all. It's a pain to habituate but so worth it once you do.

Thanks. I'll double check the advice I got to do it. Maybe I misinterpreted.

Just checked it. The book I previous referenced definitely recommends low level background noise as part of the habituation therapy. It said the key is to make sure the background noise is lower volume than the ringing.

Are you sure it wasn't always there and you just didn't notice it until you were having sinus issues after your trip? Honestly if I focus and obsess on the ringing then it seems to get louder but if I'm distracted or it's not quiet in the room I just don't hear it.

Im positive bc I didnt notice it until I went to bed Last Sunday. If I had it before I would have noticed it when my ear clogged up. The sound would have been amplified

Interesting. I noticed my habituation went better once I stopped doing anything special for my tinnitus.I might just be weird though.

Got a update. Went to the ENT today. My ringing ear (the right ear) passed the hearing test 100% my left ear which isnt ringing did not pass. He gave me ear drops to stop the inflammation and my hearing in that ear will be fine after that. As for my ringing ear he has no idea why its ringing since I have no hearing loss. He thinks since I have no hearing loss it will stop at some point. Im going again in 3 weeks
