I found myself watching some old highlights of UT games and was thinking about how much more exciting John Ward made the games while listening to the radio broadcast. I'm not really taking shots at Bob Kesling, but he doesn't seem to convey that same intensity/passion that Ward did. Any thoughts?

I've listened to maybe 5 minutes in years, and 3 of them were last year. Kesling somehow blew the coin toss and had us kicking off until he realized our KR was running with the ball. This was after introducing lineups and butchering several names, including Anthony Tiny Richardson.

Absolutely embarrassing radio play by play man. Has to be one of the worst in all levels of football, or bootfall.

Tim is no John Anderson either

Like Ward, Bill Anderson was impossible to replace. Nevertheless, I think Tim does a reasonably good job as color analyst. I love it when he suddenly loses it during a game, such as the punt block against Georgia last year, or the bad call after Gordon's overtime interception against Vanderbilt in 2011.

YES, YES, YES a thousand times YES. Heck I remember like some of the very old timers on here when there was only 3 TV channels so you had to listen on an old AM band radio you dialed in as best you could to the frequency of the station if you wanted to keep up with the game. There were not 300 channels to choose from like now. Then I would listen to JW describe the plays and you could visualize them in your head. "He's at the 50.... he's at the 40.... he's at the 30...... he's at the 20...... he's at the 10...... he's at the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.....GIVE HIM SIX!!!! TOUCHDOWN TENNESSEE!!!!." You could see that play in your head, and even typing that out I could still hear his voice. Hell yeah I miss John Ward on the radio.

John gave significantly more description and color to a one yard td plunge than Bob would to a 99 yd double reverse pass to the QB who zigzagged across the field 12 times and broke 27 tackles.

You could here the passion in John's voice. To me, Bob sounds like a non-biased play by play announcer calling a game for ESPN. You're the voice of the Vols Bob, I wish you would sound like you're pumped to be doing what you do

I heard a story about him flying home with the team from a game and he recalled the entire game play by play just as he did on the radio.

I saw him walking into the stadium at my very first UT game. My dad could tell I was excited and sent me over. He was talking to some big wigs but stopped to shake hands with a ten year old. He was always classy. I would love to hear just one game from the legend.

Good grief, can you even imagine how many checks Bob would have to make after that play? :eek:lol:
