Anyone remember the last time we played Virginia?

I was there and agree with you 100%. Still look down on those Virginia band members. They embarrassed their school, state, and community. Made whole state look totally classless.

It was not just their band, but fans as well who were depicting Tennessee in a derogatory manner. Hey SMALLVOL,it is so good to hear from you GOD BLESS you and your family. I hope all is well. And just a question to you on a personal note, did you have your little dog dressed in his/her Tennessee outfit? We have a special memory of a small dog dressed as your avatar is on your posts. This was on Canal Street close to Bourbon Street. One of our special memories of that Sugar Bowl.

I was there

Was also at the "Vinny ain't never been in a football game before" '86 Sugar Bowl

And sadly admit I attended the LSU v Illinois 2002 Sugar Bowl as I was dating a gator chick at the time. We figured one of our teams would be playing in it so bought tix early. Could have sold those on the Bourbon Street for $2K per an hour before kickoff (lower bowl 35 yard line) but she wanted to go. I greatly dislike LSU and don't miss her

My last SB was Baylor v Georgia as darling wifey is a Baylor grad

Highly recommend New Years in New Orleans and attending the Sugar Bowl

Was there at the super dome, second time to ever see a game there. (UTC va Tulane). I remember the UVA “band” wasn’t even a band but a pep band that went on the field and ran around and the whole stadium booed!!! Lol…. Also going and getting a drink and watching some of the Notre dame vs Colorado I think. In the orange bowl and having the MNF crew doing the game was cool even though I was not watching it.

If Kelly throws to an open Pickens in the end zone against ND, we win.

If Bama doesn’t block that Burke FG, we win.

If Burke hits that FG at the end against Auburn OR McCleskey makes the tackle on Auburn’s 2 or conversion instead of going for the pick, we win instead of tie.

That makes a 9-2-2 team 12-0-1, with a tie vs. Colorado. That’s easily a NC team that year.

If the Colorado game was 60 minutes and 3 seconds long instead of 60 minutes UT could have won that one as well. Chuck Webb stepped out of bounds on the last play just a second or two too late and he had just put UT in very makable field goal range.

I remember CJM quotes … If if and buts were candy and nuts…. Etc etc,
However, if we’d beaten Colorado, which we should have, and beaten ND ( still one of the best games I’ve ever attended) .. we would’ve been there. That damn interception by Kelly to end the ND games going back to the well on the same play to Harper was a heartbreaker. I thought we had it for a moment.

I was there....The only thing worse than our first half play was the Virginia so called band.
I was there also. The UVA band did a disrespectful halftime show making fun of Elvis and TN. I've despised those classless condescending Wahoos ever since. Hope we beat them by 70!

Even back then, Tennessee tried to give games away. That squib kick was such a horrendous call.

I watched that from my living room as a 14 year old kid.

I remember their band. I don't know if they are still like this or not, but at the time they were a Stanford Band wannabe, and were doing very obnoxious bits.

Their program that night was something like "A Tribute to NutraSweet." Because it was the Sugar Bowl, they thought they were hilarious. Presumably to mock east Tennessee, there was also a majorette in an over-the-top Dolly Parton costume. If that sounds sophomoric, that was what they were going for.
Didn't make that game but watched on t.v. Indeed, Stanford & Virginia marching bands were "junk" I.M.O. I understand the VA band is now respectable, but we shall see. Regardless, the P.O.T.S. Band with bury 'em, as shall the Vol team.

Webb ran out of bounds at the end of the Colorado game and I swore there was a second left on the clock, but they ran it off. Should’ve been kicking a FG there.

UVA has a regular band now and has for quite a few years, my daughter was in it. The pep band used to make fun of their opponents and took it too far playing WVU one year. They involved the governor of WV, drinking, etc., it was funny as hell. I personally miss the pep band, they always made fun of the other teams and they pushed the limit quite a few times. Were they the Pride of the Southland? No, not even close and they still aren’t. Their sound is excellent, but field presence is not even in the same league as the pride.

Before George Welsh, the pep band was the only thing ‘hoo fans had to look forward to on game day!

Most of the Shenandoah is in Virginia, partially in WV. Supposedly, lyrics were written about a town in western Maryland.

My dad's birthday. He smoked 1 and a half packs of Winston cigarettes during that game. He looked at the ash tray after the game was over and I remember him saying he was ashamed of himselfnfor.smoking so much.

He laid them down and never picked one up again.
