Anyone Who Thought The Tennessee Fan Base...

hat, can I ask you a serious question?

Fate has it that the UT job is open 2 years ago and Kentucky is not. Any possible way BCG leaves A&M for UT?
I doubt it. He's a Texas guy. It was going to take an elite job to get him out of the Lone Star State.

I post on another site with a lot of UK fans. The majority are saying it's a done deal, that Clyde is gone. The big rumor is Billy D is coming. They supposedly went to Pitino with a blank check, but he turned them down.

Rumor of the day: UK has offered John Calipari 32MM for 7 years, plus some sort of annuity bonus for retention and performance, and he has accepted it or is considering it or hasn't answered.

I have no idea if there is any substance at all, but I thought I would add the singing chorus of Cat fans in Western Kentucky to the rest of the gossip mongers.

Then how can you compare the 2 coaches? I know it's not all you, and you go where you are led, but to compare the 2 coaches is dumb. Clearly, UK should have the better coach, they are going to attract the elite. UT is not an elite school, and they aren't going to attract an elite coach. The majority of us feel they are on the up swing, though. We may be wrong, but making the NCAA tourney is better than not making the NIT.

All in all, UT did very well when they hired Pearl. Will he win championships? He proved he could win the SEC, but did a rational person expect him to come in and win NC's?

I just don't understand what would motivate Cal to leave Memphis for another NCAA job. He's in one of the finest arenas in the country, he annually brings in top recruiting classes, he's a 1 or 2 seed in the tournament every year.....other than prestige, what would be the draw to Kentucky?

$32 million might help, although I seriously doubt anybody in Lexington could outbid Freddy Smith & Co. if it came down to a bidding war.

EDIT: I'm not sure that prestige really plays into it, either. Calipari is a top coach in the country at Memphis and would be at UK. Why is being at a more tradition rich school any more prestigious?

Had they chosen to spend the money, Tennessee could have hired an elite coach when they hired Pearl. When people around here choose to claim Pearl is an upper echelon coach, it is perfectly logical to compare him to his competition. It's not a tough concept to follow.

Prestige is a big deal. Plus, he can cheat just as much (or more) at Kentucky.... and he can still count on winning 30 games a year b/c the SEC is no better than C-USA. Seems like a no brainer to me.

I am confused. Was this intended as toungue-in-cheek?

RC. better come up with some more $$$$$ if this crap is true about UK. I dont think Memphis wants to lose Cal. I really don't see him going anywhere, but anything could happen I guess.

Yeah, spending money was the prudent thing to do when you aren't filling your arena and you are already paying 2 other coaches.

NM, whenever you post from now on I will...:worship:

Only partially. Obviously the SEC is down tremendously and Cal still wouldn't have to share the limelight with any other high profile coaches like in the ACC or Big East.

But where's the benefit? If Memphis can keep his compensation comparable to what UK could offer, what would be his motivation to leave for Lexington? What about the UK job is "better" than his current situation in Memphis?

Keeneland.

After asking that question of every Kentucky fan singing the Cal song, that's the only sensible answer I can find.

Also, anyone mentally deficient enough to have defended Clemson should be careful about calling anyone else out.

what about those mentally deficient enough to claim -- no, guarantee -- that Tennessee would finish no worse than 4th in any conference other than the Big East?

As bad as Clemson was, they won exactly as many games as Tennessee did in the tournament.
