How many friggin' cautions were there tonight? 15? They couldn't throw one more in the last 50 laps? Aiiie.

Am I the only one wondering why Jimmie Johnson wasn't penalized for pitting/servicing the car outside the pit box on that pit stop where they prematurely dropped the jack and he lurched forward about 10 feet outside the box and stopped to allow the work to be finished?

Im glad JJ Yeley didn't win, ever since he wrecked Harvick at the Milwaukee Mile last year on the final lap costing him the win, I've disliked him.

Yeah, I wish Nascar would clarify why they didn't black flag him for that.

I believe the penalty is just starting at the tail end of the lead lap, which at the time would've been 16th. I guess they figured dropping from 1st to 10th was penalty enough for JJ.

Wow, after winning his first race Darrell has just compared Casey to Jeff Gordon and says Casey may win the title next year.

Are you serious? :eek:lol:

Although I don't particularly see THAT happening, three other recent champions won their first Cup race in the 600; Jeff Gordon, Bobby Labonte, and Matt Kenseth.

He said that Casey reminded him of Jeff Gordon winning the 600 and that he thinks Casey is like Gordon or something like that and then he said he expected Casey to compete for the championship next year now that he has his first win under his belt.

No one has ever said DW didn't have a vivid imagination.

I'm just curious, how does a fuel mileage win all of a sudden put someone on par with a four time champion and all time great? I don't remember DW babbling about the apparently numerous similarities between Mears and Gordon before tonight?

Apparently Casey is going to win 80 more races due to fuel mileage and 4 championships to go along with it.

Heck, Kyle Petty finished 3rd tonight so lets just pencil him in for a top 3 finish in the points next year.

I don't agree with DW in what he said, however, I do think Mears has a ton of talent and could definitely be a factor in the Cup series for a long time. He won that race in similar fashion that Gordon did... Gordon took a gamble late on 2 tires and stole the race from Bobby Labonte. It was his first career win, driving for Hendrick, after wrecking a lot of cars the previous year. So, although I don't believe he's the next Jeff Gordon or anything, he can definitely win a lot of races and be competitive for several years.

Kyle Petty, on the other hand, that may have been the last top 5 of his career.

Jeff Gordon's first win was quite different than Mears. It was in his second full season instead of his fifth. He did take two tires to take the lead through a round of green flag pit stops, but he outran Dale Earnhardt.

Mears will be competitive for as long as he's in a Hendrick car, but I doubt he'll go off and win a bunch of races and definitely not a championship.

It was different, but it wasn't quite a bit different. This is Mears' first season with Hendrick, Gordon's was his second with Hendrick. He outran Earnhardt but he also outran Bobby Labonte at the end of the race as well. Brian Vickers ran very well and could've won several races in the 25 car the past 2 years. Who's to say Mears' can't go out and be just as competitive and win a lot of races? I don't think he'll ever win a title, but to say he can't win a lot of races is naive.

I was wrong, it was actually Rusty Wallace that Gordon outran in the end of that race.

Bobby Labonte finished 40th that night.

NASCAR.COM

Whenever Mears goes out and has a complete race and wins it with guys like Gordon, Stewart, or Johnson still on the track with fuel in their car, I'll speculate on how many races he may or may not win. He showed last night that he and his team can win a fuel mileage race. I don't see how that correlates to many future wins.

sorry, I was wrong as well.

Yes, they won a fuel mileage race, but you can't forget that they had a top 5 car. The car was good enough to finish near the front and, he may not have won the race if not for fuel mileage, but he and the team can obviously put together a strong performance. So, that in itself tells me they can eventually win some races... how many? i don't know, but to say they can't is not giving enough respect to that team.

yep, and the morons in the stands cheer when he has a horrific wreck like that. A guy goes out and races, puts his life on the line to try to put on a good show for the fans and gets his car turned straight into a wall going about 180mph and then knocked clear off the track, and the people cheer. Absolute classless morons.
